TY sir.

Got the heads assembled, springs shimmed, and Smart Coils, installed and wired up. I have next week off so I'm going to knock out the reassembly.

sounds like we will be running possibly around the same time. I’m in the Dallas area if you’re within a decent drive we might should link up sometime for a fun run.

Dont think i posted this one here after the lid got powercoated

Heads

Assembled

Smart coils mounted, wired, and firecore wires, ecu relocated slightly

2" x 2-1/8" stepped headers with 3.5" collectors

Also have the 3.5" x-pipe but it necks back down to 3" to connect to the axle-back exhaust. May have that section cut out, weld in some v bands and do some dumps with a small race muffler and see how it sounds.

I think the exhaust that far back will matter a lot less. You can dyno it with some 3.5" test pipes off the headers and see if you gain any power. The collector size and your x-pipe should give you all the exhaust flow you need.

Changing from the stock exhaust that necks to ~2.5" right at the muffler is good for about 10whp. I'd think getting rid of the 3" section would be worth, at least, 5whp. Is that worth the extra noise and drone? Maybe not. The neck down portion is all one piece with the x-pipe. I'll see what availability my engine builder has to see if he can make me something that will be easily removed/installed.

Jay, test fit the headers to the heads before installation, to make sure they clear the 6 bolt heads. I’ve seen guys go with the 6 bolt heads, and their headers not fit. You can bolt them to the heads on the bench to see. larger tube headers turn down quicker for clearance on the outside, and often get too close to the outer bolts on the heads. Hopefully they are good here.

Good idea, I've heard of that as well. Much easier to trim what's needed when they are off the car.

i did the reasearch and heres why i made the grannatetlli choice, not ordered yet but when its time im going with them. the ign1a puts out somewhere around 46000 volts, the granatelli have high 70000 volt and a low 80000.....this isnt a good selling point because whose to say 46000 isnt already sufficient and/or that 30000 more volts even performs any better in an ls motor better. no tests have been done that im aware of that say XXX volts is all you need on an ls car. cost wise i believe the ign1a are about 250 cheaper give or take. HOWEVER........the ign take a decent amount of tuning time to dial in where the grannatelli you would tune very very similar if not identical to a stock coil making it much less time consuming if you are paying a tuner. also the install is a bit more involved on the ign.....im running LME valve covers with the pcv ports built in and the mounts/stands for stock ls7 coils. the granatelli coils have the same dimensions as a stock ls7 coil so they will mount right up and you can also use the stock coil harness on the c6 engine harness. the ign will require a custom coil mount bracket fabbed up, not sure if you can buy one, but then you also need to buy an adapter harness becuase the stock harness wont work. i did the math and i believe the mounts and harnesses would add 150 to the coil install cost, making grand total about 100 to 150 less than the grannatelli. can not find any one running the grannatelli coils for feedback so decided to guinea pig them.

full disclosure, grannatelli is the internets most hated ignition company for ls cars. they got a real bad rep from people calling them out for the hp increases granatelli was claiming from their 0 ohm ignition wires. there has been a few heated battles on this one but if i remember, no one actually did any independent dyno tests in a closed test, same day before and after stock wire vs granatelli wire dyno test. the main argument of the granatelli haters is that virtually no power is to be had by replacing a good functioning gm/msd wire set with a new set of grannatelli wires. the other complaint is that taylor wires, used by many many of guys on high dollar builds for years and years have had no problems cost a little over half the cost of grannatelli wires. becuase of this, and because it has been proving stock coils are typically more superior than the aftermarket replacements, many people just jump to the conclusion that at 700 dollars the grannatlli coils are a waste.
I actually did back to back testing on MSD wires vs. Grannatelli's and wouldn't you know it...there was no gains. I had more of the Gran's spark plug wires break than MSD's and OEM combined. Finally threw them in the trash and went back to MSD's.

I can't see how they are even still in business. I'll shut up, I'm not trying to hi jack your thread.

Got a little spicy today. Haha. Drivability is pretty much dialed in. We had 24 degrees in it up top and according to the spark plugs, we were way soft still. Added a few more but haven’t done another pull. Car feels great and drives great for having such a big cam. Very happy.
