Generation IV Internal Engine 2005-2014 LS2 | LS3 | LS7 | L92 | LS9

Any reason to use LS2 heads on an LS3, or did engine shop really screw up?

Cathedral heads on an LS3 seems to be a choking point unless it was like what ddnspider said and a FAST LSXr 102 or a Holley High Ram was up top.

If I were the owner here, I would request a return number, and send it back. If the shop gave me any resistance, I’d remind them that social media posts with pictures and shop names could really hurt business. After the refund, I’d go somewhere else. There’s no telling what’s wrong in the rest of the engine.

I wouldn’t trust that shops work. Probably just slapped it all together without measuring and torqued with a battery powered Dewalt. If you have non factory head bolts, pull the valve cover and see if the head studs or bolts are torqued to spec. Heck maybe see if any of the bolts are torqued to spec valve covers, front/rear, valley covers. That’s just sad attention to details.

Wow! That's mind boggling!

What everyone else said. The fact they missed what's circled in blue...send it back ask for refund. Chevelle is on the mark.

File with credit card company or whatever it takes.

However, it the motor sat for a long time, had no warranty or warranty has expired, it may be an uphill battle.

Good luck

Did not intentionally ignore it. I appreciate the info and it was relayed to the owner, I just failed to correct my post here.

Agreed. He's calling them today to discuss. I told him we could install new heads if they refunded him a big portion of the bill, but the lower end might still be suspect and would likely void any warranty they'd have provided.

I can tell you the intake was not torqued. When I went to take it off a few bolts felt torqued, while others I could turn with my fingers and the extension.

This has to be one of the poorest examples of a "professionally" built engine I have EVER heard of. Sad. If it was me, I'd send the whole thing back, and ask for a total refund. Then take your business someplace that has a good reputation. My good God, I was better with a wrench at 12 years old than these idiots......

Any more pictures of the engine?
Is it even an aluminum block?
I wouldn't doubt if they just sold you a cleaned up and painted junkyard Lq4 with a cam in it.

It looks like it's an L92 aluminum block. It has 12584724 on the back of it, which comes up as an 6.2 L92, which is what I believe he was expecting to get.

I did put a scope in to check out the cylinders and they look freshly honed and the pistons look clean, so I do think it's a fresh rebuild. Whether it was done right and with the right stuff I don't know. It's supposed to have forged rods, though without getting if off the pallet and pulling the pan I can't really confirm. I'm not going to take that step unless, for some reason, he ends up still with this engine.

Some LS1, some LS3, and a few ford ones throw in for good measure.

The tag that came on the engine says "Stock GM". It was delivered the last day of November though we only fully unwrapped the engine a few months ago as we started the actual build. We did check through all the paperwork, accessory boxes, etc., and took enough plastic off to verify the belt drive looked right, mounted accessories looked good, etc, but not enough to see the wrong heads were installed. Lesson learned apparently . . .

If they push back or anything I'll open it up more to see what is actually inside vs. what they claim.

I think it's clear where Connor left off, and Bob took over.

What's with the 317 at the top left corner of the tag?
