Ok, so as some of you are aware, I sold my Nova build with the 454 lsx and Performance Design cross ram intake manifold. Car was a pro touring car. Im going more street/strip on the chevelle. Here she is, my 65 Chevelle SS. I ve been working with Eric Roycroft on the design, build, and execution of the baddest NA engine I ll ever own. My goals were for it to be a pumpgas(93 oct) hydraulic roller in the 750/650 range at the fly wheel. Its a little different and should be a really fun street car soon. This thread is for the engine. Its a continuation of the failed RHS 427ci dud. Some parts are getting used in this build. I ll do a build thread for the rest of the car soon too. Got lotsa pics for yall. Now, I know this gunna upset some of you, but ER has asked me not to divulge certain specs of the engine. Theres no conspiracy theory here, the man just wants some stuff kept off the internets. I have to respect that and will. Doesnt mean you guys cannot pester the heck out of him and see if he ll breakdown! Lol. He s made me aware of all the details and kept me in the loop. Thats good enough for me. Im gunna be honest when I say he s forgotten more than I know. This engine is almost finished and will be getting dyno'd soon. This will get it going, posting up lots of pics next!
The plan:
-Darton sleeved 5.3l aluminum block from Mast Motorsports bored to 4.165"
-Mast 285cc LS7 heads
-Cam=BIG, Yuge! Race cam specs, Hydraulic Roller, .735 lift
-Comp cams dual conical valve springs
-Jesel shaft rockers
-Johnson tie bar lifters
-Callies Comp Star CCW 4.125" crank
-Callies Ultra 6.125" rods
-Custom Diamond Pistons(11.9:1 CR)
-Holley Hi ram base(lots of custom runner work by ER)
-Holley dual 4150 lid
-(2) 4150 Accufab tb's
Final numbers, 830hp and 672tq. Yeehaw!!! Eric Roycroft delivered! Its a beast. Its sat, ima let him get packed up n back home with his family before I get all the details.
Long block. We had to modify the oil pan to clear the steering components on the chevelle. Which led to also modifying the pick up tube. I was going to use the Holley pan that we know fits, but Eric insisted we use a decent oil pan. Its gunna be fine now I think.
Uncle teacher ER is on it. Im quite confident the results will be worth the wait. He seems into it and is chippin away. I hope he gets on here and throws some cam input and the work he s doing on the intake mani runners. Thats his choice tho. Id be damn proud to let it all hang out otherwise.
The fun begins at 0:25. Very similiar to mine. Im liking the numbers it put down with the 4150 tb s. I gotta get Lew, DOUBLE06, in here too. He just had a killer 455ci built. Man that engine did great. Theres some real power using those MSD intakes. Lots good builds comn up from some members in here. Lets keep the forums alive!
There are a lot of great photos and stuff here. A lot of attention to detail which really helps in the long run. I can hardly wait for the outcome, install and road test. There is a lot that has been done to this 1965 Chevelle here. You have inspired me to get moving on my 455 LS CID build thread. Keep going Ryan.
