Lifter? Rod? Spring? What the heck is this sound????
Greetings! New member here. I am on a very similar forum for Corvettes but joined this for ya'lls expert opinions on this sound coming from my 2006 ls2.
It only shows up when the car is warm. On cold start, there is zero noise like this. It sounds normal until warm.
When this began, I also popped code p0171 and C0561-71 at the exact same time. I've cleared them and they come back immediately *unless* it's cold, in which case they don't come back until it warms up.
I plan to pull the valve cover tomorrow or Saturday when I have time but I'd love to get ya'lls thoughts/opinion on what the heck this is. Thank you in advance!

What's that thing at 2:26? Looks like one of those things used to push the header in when there's a broken bolt. And there's at least two different header bolts.
Are you talking about the noise that sounds like someone flicking a cardboard box with their finger?

Sound is actually very good. But that is a very deep tone. Unplug/unhook everything on that side, pull valve cover and and check everything regarding rockers. Rotate engine by hand 360 and check everything as you do. You can start it. It will run just fine on 4 cylinders. I do it all the time. if it's not in the valvetrain, i.e. loose rocker bent pushrod, then its not a lifter and more in depth like rod knock. Not to say it isn't a bad cam lobe or bad lifter roller, which in turn destroys the cam. But the tone is too deep to be a collapsed lifter.
But honestly, that sounds more like actual piston/rod noise.

Happy Ending :-)
Feeling thankful that my weekend is *not* going to consist of removing cylinder heads and possibly pulling an engine. Here is the outcome. Thanks ya'll.

hahhaaha WOW
Well, congrats, saves a lot of heartache and money.
IMHO, leave the hose on it. The line is discontinued through GM and even if you did find one, it's old and brittle and will just break again.
Also I applaud you for updating the end result. 99% of the time guys never reply back with the findings or fix.

Mine cracked, too. I just used a rubber fuel line hose to fix it. I used fuel line due to the fact that fumes could rot regular rubber lines. Glad you found it, and even better, you followed up on what cured it. Kudos, and this is exactly what makes our forum so good!!!
