Default Building 427 needing camshaft recommend

4000lb SS Sedan manual 6
3:45 gear
whipple 2.9
10 rib setup/w 10% overdrive balancer..looking to make 16-20 psi or more
5” CAI w/LS7 MAF
have Meth injection
flex fuel, run e85 most of time
1700 inj
plenty of fuel pump!
Johnson short travel links
Mast 295 LS3 rec port
10.54-1 but can adjust to 10.08 if needed
4.125 bore
4 stroke
6.125 rod

things of importance in order:
idle sound…I like radical
drivability…I will put up with a little surge but nothing crazy. It’s my daily.
power…as much as possible
revs….not afraid to take it to 7500.

I assume the "10.54-1 can adjust to 10.08" is the static CR?

I'd keep the static CR as high as possible with E. You can go completely apeshit on the cam stuff with not a lot to show for it other than a bad assed idle and crappy manners and crappy fuel eco. Especially on a daily driver when you're not trying to harvest every last HP. How fast you spin the blower is going to set you power level more so than the camshaft size anyway. A monster cam will make a little bit more on the top end at a cost.

I'd look for something in the mid 230's on the intake with mid 240's on the exhaust. Low .600's for lift to save your valve train. 114+1 if you value the chop. 117+4 if you want it a little bit smoother.

Thanks for the reply….I’m def on board with your manner of thought with it. I do want the option to put 93 in the tank and be safe when it’s opened up so I’m shying away from anything above 10.5.

I'd go with this or give Kip a call and have something custom made. Definitely stay with the higher 10.5:1. Headers with the largest primaries you can fit and dual 3" all the way back.

you can do a lot in the tune to get the idle you want. i had a c6 z (e38 ecu) with a 468 and giant cam and the original tune it idled very calm and quiet. changed around some of the idle tables and it completely transformed it, shaking at stoplights, etc. the cool thing about doing it in the tune is once youre not at idle it cleans up and cruises smooth. it also started up nice and the only time it had idle stability issues like stalling was from me not clutching it perfect.
ive done similar with the haltech and 5.3 in my chevelle and its a noticable difference. i think the internet lingo to look for is 'ghost cam'
cell phone mics and computer speaker give it no justice, but you can get the idea:

so i guess what im trying to impress is dont overdo the cam to get a particular idle. spec the cam for the actual performance you want and install the badass idle in the ecu.

This should be the norm regardless. Cam for desired power level only. Sound is whatever happens....
