Default Pulling an aluminum engine

I have pulled many engines both steel and aluminum but never hooked straight to an aluminum block before. Heads have already been removed and there is really no accessory bolt holes in the front or rear of the block deep enough to hold the weight of the engine and MN6 trans. I thought about pulling it through the head bolt hole, but the bottom head bold holes have water jackets on three sides of the holes and would hate to destroy this LS3 block. Any of you guy pulled and aluminum block without the heads bolted on?

I use a lift plate. It’s worth the money. Here’s a link…

I agree with the lift plate 100%. However-Most people don't realize how much force, in tons, that even an 8mm/5/16 thread can generate. I've forgotten how many tons that a single 1/4-20 thread can generate, but it is more than most realize......

I can't count how many iron big-blocks I've pulled with a carb motor plate. 4 5/16" bolts (arbitrarily close to the same as 8mm) in an aluminum manifold.

That lift plate is awesome (I have one too); an exhaust manifold bolt at a front corner and the opposite rear corner is fine; just make sure to tighten the bolts down so that the pulling device isn't trying to break them off.

I've never pulled a steel motor but I have dealt with many cast-iron ones. I'd think they'd weight close to the same though, both being forms of iron.

I was more worried about the block itself and not necessarily the threads holding. Those head bolt holes are surrounded by the water jackets and I'm lifting the engine and MN6 trans.

I don't know what MN6 is; butt if you were ever to visit to a casting foundry and seen how finished and semi-finished product is handled, I don't think you'd worry about it anymore.

If the exhaust manifolds are off I would use four chains, one on each corner of the block. Also a "tilter" so you can adjust the engine/trans angle. If you get one get the style that has the handwheel to adjust tilt.

MN6 is the 6-speed manual transmissions used in Camaro SS and Corvettes, they are all aluminum and pretty big.

Not all C5 Corvettes used the MN6. The C5 Z06 used the MN12 6 speed. It has slightly different internals than the MN6.....
