Question Just asking?

From your recent post.

How does the cam lobe wear line up with the loose valve guides?

No, I don't have the means at my home garage to check the guide I.D., partly because I sold most of my toolmaker/machinist tools. Intake stems all mic'd .3135"-.3137", as new. So I figure even though the wiggle test has become redundant (to some), I say if they hardly wiggle, or move, they must not be worn. However, as I removed the #3 and #5 exhaust valves, they felt- IDK how to explain it any other way-gritty. So I wiped the exhaust stems off, and they were galled pretty good!! So then I cleaned the other exhaust stems off, and every one of them showed galling!! Shockingly, the #8 exhaust stem, the one in the worst worn guide of all, was in the best shape of all the exhaust stems! Only reason I can figure is maybe it got a bit more oil due to the extreme wiggle. Who knows?? When I mic'd the exhaust stems, they all measured same as intake stems. Would love feedback on this development....

Talking Update?

Hello,
Glad you are on the way to have your Corvette running again.
I am curious, what type of valve guides and valves did Tony use on your heads? Hope that sovles your guide wear problem.
Thanks

He reinstalled my Ferrea hollow stem stainless intake valves, and 8 new solid stem stainless exhaust valves. He used-I wanna say-CHE(?) bronze guides that are 1/4" longer than stock guides. Tony helped me out in many, MANY ways. Can't say enough good things about him. I'm hoping my old *** can have the thing fired up by mid September. Cam and lifters are in, and heads are on and snugged. Will torque them tomorrow. Used to be able to stay out in the garage 3 or 4 hours AFTER working 10 hours on the toolroom floor. Now that I'm retired, I'm happy if I can get 4-5 hours in! Looking forward to getting it back. I've had issues years ago with letting a '65 Chevelle sit all summer. Put a junkyard motor in it, and the trans seals went bad from sitting 3 months. Never good to let something sit, and my car has been parked over 3 months now.....

In answering post #41, the worst lobe was the #8 exhaust. But it's only coincidental. The #8 lobe turned out to be pretty soft. All other lobes came in at a minimum 56 RC, and the heel on #8 E. was only 30-32!!! None of the heels showed any wear. Tony checked my springs for proper pressure, and all 16 were fine......

I'm running Ferrea hollow stem stainless intakes, and solid stem stainless exhaust, in bronze guides which are 1/4" longer than OEM LS7 guides. These are what Tony recommended......
