Default Chatter noise after dod delete

I recently took on the task of doing a dod delete in my 08 silverado. I did the following
3 bolt 4x timing gear
stock 3 bolt 5.3 cam
Plugged lifter valley holes with lpe plugs
dod delete valley cover
Btr lifters
Disabled dod in ecm.
Only items I reused were pushrods and rockers.
After going over everything I filled it fluids I fired it up and nothing but chatter from up top. Has anyone gone through this? Is there something I missed?

"Only items I reused were pushrods"
You measured to be sure these would work, right?

No. I read here on several threads from several people stated that the pushrods were the same length. I'll look into it in a few hrs

From Texas Speed ad....
* A NON-DOD CAMSHAFT IS REQUIRED!

* MANUFACTURER WARRANTY ON JOHNSON OR COMP LIFTERS ONLY! OTHER BRAND LIFTERS DO NOT COME WITH A MANUFACTURER WARRANTY.

* Pushrod length can vary any time you change valvetrain components including, cam, lifters, heads, etc. Due to this, pushrod length should always be measured once all new components are installed. If you are unsure if you need a different pushrod length or need an educated estimate when ordering, please give us a call.

A few things to note here…
The factory DOD camshaft has 8 lobes designed for DOD lifters. It’s not compatible with std lifters. It will work, but not correctly. Lifespan of that cam could be drastically shortened…
How did you plug the DOD towers? If you threaded and used pipe plugs (not sure what lpe plugs are), you’ll never get the tap shavings out of the towers without disassembling the engine.
Always measure pushrod length when changing lifters, or cam, or both.
Hopefully you’ve simply got a pushrod length issue as Old Buzzard has already suggested, and all is well.

"stock 3 bolt 5.3 cam"
Scott,
I noted this when I made the post and "assumed" it is a non-DOD shaft.
Maybe it's not and ....
The lpe is likely LPE. It's a pop rivit deal.

I used LPE plugs using a pop rivet gun. Have you heard of deleting an oil pan pressure relief valve? That's something I've read about and I didn't do. Is it necessary when performing a dod delete?

It’s not required to have it done. Mast Motorsports told me it’s not needed when I swapped to a 98-02 f-body pan. Some people swap to a standard volume and pressure pump too.

Gotcha now. The oil pan mod is popular but not necessary, as Jimbo pointed out, and it would have nothing to do with your chatter noise. Have you isolated the noise to a particular area of the engine?
