if all you did was take the gas out you just have to put gas back in, unless somehow you lost oil. make sure you vacume the system out to at lease 1000 - 750 microns before you charge it. system capacity of refrigerant is in the owner manual or i think it is also under the hood on a sticker.

System capacity is 1.5 lbs. Did you evacuate the system professionally of just take it apart and "let 'er blow" . If you did the latter then you DID lose oil and it'll have to be replaced. If it was evacuated then just add the freon. If the system is left open for more than 15 minutes then the correct way to do it is to evacuate the system for 15 minutes or until it'll hold a vacuum ( if there's moisture in the system it will NOT hold a vacuum ) then recharge the system with 1.5 lbs of r134.

System was open for approximately 2 hours and I did loose maybe an ounce of oil while the hose was hanging down. Im sure I didnt loose all the oil though. I bought a re-charge kit and will try it myself first.

Thanks

1 once of oil is alot!

When you open the system, you should replace the receiver/drier before you vacuum and recharge.

Driers are the big tin cans with the black hoses and cost about $75

We need a separate topic section in this board to cover air conditioning issues; this is very important and represents a big hole in the board. Please ask your addministrator to add a separate topic for AC!

I only added a 1/2 ounce of oil at best, then charged with 2 cans of refridgerant and it cools as good or better than before.

..for now yeh. wait a few weeks and the system will likely go south.... anytime u open the system moister enters and kills the chemicals contained in the drier...

Lets talk to the moderators and get a separate topic board for air conditioning issues....

not only does it contaminate the dryer, but if you get enough moisture in the system it will freeze inside the expansion valve blocking it, and then no more cool for you until it melts.

...Not to mention the possiblility of a FUBAR'd compressor. A new dryer is kind of cheap insurance for the system.
