The black LS2 dampner will not fit an LS1/Ls6 block because the bolt pattern width is different. I have an old style brown dampner and GMPP chain FS if you need it. PM me if interested.

Gino I know the bolt pattern is different, but if the block is not drilled at all now can you
not drill it for the new black dampner?

Yes you can drill and tap. The difference between the two is small, with the LS2 dampner having the narrower bolt pattern. Here's a pic of a block with the holes in question circled in red.

No, I see were you say:
"This is the LS2 chain#88958608 and #88958607 dampener."

And I see where SDPC says:

"The timing chain part number is 12586482 and previously this chain had only been used on the 6.0L in the 2004 Cadillac and Chevrolet pick-ups."

Can you post where it gives the detailed answer to "which is it?".

"Therefore it would be highly unlikely that any production built LS6 ever came with the new HD LS2 timing chain, but if you need to replace the chain on your LS1 or LS6 it will be replaced with the new HD LS2, part number 12586482. "

Correct, the 88958608 part number chain and 88958607 damper was the GM racing chain and damper created to cure early timing chain problems with the old LS1/LS6 chains.
The new 12586482 is the GM production LS2 chain which has a new damper which is four times cheaper than the original GM racing damper.

Where can I find a double row, true roller, with damper, that has the LS2 type reluctor wheel on it?

Will a double row setup fit under the stock cover that has the integrated pickup?

This is for a C5R block which is not drilled for the rear cam sensor.

right but, is it recommended to replace the gears due to wear issues or is it not worth the extra 50 dollars or so spent on new gears?

Skip the sprocket for a Gen III. You would only need it for a LS2 because of the cam sensor.
