The only difference between these two engines when it comes to the timing components is the cam gear. The LS2 cam gear is specifically made for the cam position sensor, without this gear the sensor can not locate the cam!
Therefore it would be highly unlikely that any production built LS6 ever came with the new HD LS2 timing chain, but if you need to replace the chain on your LS1 or LS6 it will be replaced with the new HD LS2, part number 12586482.

I have been running the LS2 chain without sprocket change for 3 months.
More imprtant the T1 race cars have switched to this chain cause they were busting LS1/6 chains at high revs..
You can also fit the GM performance dampener for added safety.

KJ - I run the LS1 dampener as well, but I heard there is a LS1 unit (light brown) and a LS2 (black) that serve the same purpose with a difference in price.
Also, I run the GMPP heavy duty LS1/LS6 chain.. is this the same as the LS2 chain?
Also, I run the GMPP heavy duty LS1/LS6 chain.. is this the same as the LS2 chain?
