Default 20 brake pads on C6 ZO6

Just going over the press release and it lists 6piston calipers up front with Individual pads on each piston and 4piston calipers out back for a total of 20 pads? Am i reading this right?!

You are reading that right, but a brake caliper still uses 2 pads per corner regardless of how many pistons are used.

each piston can use it's own pad, this creates more even pressure and increased pedal feel. It's used in some high end farrari's and indy cars.

no kidding. I stand corrected.
FWIW- I found a brake setup that has 12 pistons and 4 pads per caliper:

Given the nearly $300 MSRP of factory replacement C4 pads (never checked price on C5 stuff) I nearly faint at the thought of replacing 20 pads.

Taken straight from Autoweek "You'll also spot the red-painted six-piston calipers up front, which use six individual pads to promote even wear. Rear calipers are more traditional four-pot/two-pad designs, also readily visible through the Z06's 10-spoke wheels."

just think they're thinking of adding ceramic brake pads as a 4,000 dollar option. the enzo charges some like that for pad changes and they said if you dont change them and the rotors go out 25k

If there is a ceramic brake option, its referring to the rotors. They are the new "hot" item in the Porsche/Ferrari world but have been more of a problem than anything. Lots of them have been cracking prematurely. There were a few lawsuits filed aganist Porsche because of this.

I'd stick with steel rotors.

They've been using individual pads for each piston for a while on motorcycles. More pads= more leading edges allowing increased initial bite. I've got two 4-piston brake calipers/rotors on the front of my ZX6-R and the brakes bite like none other. Almost too strong since my front contact patch is only about the size of a quarter and the braking force easily overcomes the front tire's grip. Nice to have a huge setup, though, to dissapate heat.

Actually pad on piston technology hasn't really been used much on production bikes up until very recently and still isn't used in a lot of bikes. What kind of tires are you running on your bike? I rode my buddys 04 636 and can tell you the bike will flip before the tire looses traction.

Well yeah, I can get both tires to howl with my weight very rearward at max braking. I'm still on the stocker shitty Brigestones, which are definietly aren't that grabby, on stickier treads, I'd probably stoppie more often under similar braking.
