StickSS- that's exactly what I was thinking... the LS2 GTO, that is. It's a MUCH better match for the Charger/SRT-8. It's still not as big, but it's a LOT closer than the 'Vette is.

In any event, I'd say that the 6.1L Hemi (in the SRT-8/Charger if it ever gets the 6.1L) is certainly competition for the LS2 GTO... if they want to stay up front, the General is going to need to do just as someone mentioned... clean up/revise the intake, and go with a slightly more agressive cam.

Oh I am reliving the Glory Days of my mispent youth. I grew up in the hight of the horsepower race of the late sixty's and early seventies. The old GTO's were allways faster than the Chargers. I went to No Valley High in NJ. One of the only High Schools in the country with a messured qtr mile strip in back, Columbus Road. Sight of a few famous races. Back then we had a lot of respect for the cops with the old Plymouth Fury police interceptors. I think if I were to modify a new GTO I would try the CheatR cam with some ported heads and leave the stock intake and exhaust manifolds so it would look and sound stock. Maybe just add an air intake and a catback. Got to go now.

I drove a Charger R/T a couple of days ago, Rated at 350hp. That thing was embarrasing, it was a freaking boat. Gross Vehicle Weight was 5300#'s. It did a 60 punch and never thought I was going to hit 80. I don't think that the extra 75 rated hp is going to make that much of a difference. I seriously think that an Impala or Monte Carlo in stock form is going to be close, if not in front of the R/T model.

It doesn't weight 5300lbs. Like other have said before.. The Hemi Charger has a final drive ratio of 2.83

Did it have the little sticker in the back that said RT?

You probably drove a 3.5. GVW btw is the TOTAL weight the vehicle is designed to carry, not the vehicle weight itself.

Your thoughts that a stock Impalla or anything like that is even close is way wrong.

BTW, I still think a 3.5 SXT would take a 3.8 and I've driven them all, multiple models of each.

Put down the pipe

I own a '09 Challenger SRT8, it has the TREMEC 6 speed with a 3:91 "limited slip" (posi). The automatics had the cruising gears (and a brake lock setup for traction) as stated, when you order the TREMEC you can get the TracPac which gets the 3:91's and some other options in the "package". It really nails you back in the seat when you pull the trigger and bang the gears. If the magazines had a non slushbox driver (Ronnie Sox type) doing the tests the times would be MUCH lower... Also as noted the weight of the car is it's only true downfall, although you do NOT feel the weight. I have talked to a few that have hit the 170's and it still had more to give, better "breathing" would help it out. Awesome machine ! I hate to see winter come..............

The Charger SRT weighs 4300 lbs and the Challenger SRT weighs 4100 lbs. I think NoOne had it right it had to be the 250 hp 3.5. I have the 3.5 in a Magnum (wagon) and to be honest it runs fine for an everyday family car, both in town and on the highway. I can pass and keep up with the traffic with NO problem. Now my Dakota with the 3.9 SUCKS as far as being fast or quick but is great for hauling and being used as a regular truck...

FWIW, the "horsepower wars" are now! This is an amazing time to be into performance cars.

I didn't join to "boast", believe me, I see enough of that here already... I just joined to clarify some miss stated weights, trannsmissions and gears by people that didn't know the correct info. If it makes you feel safe or more secure or able to miss quote another brands specs/etc to feel good, by all means.......... BAN ME ! I really don't care.

Hemi's now are where LS was back in 2000...just the tip of the iceberg. They've got some new tuners to be able to mod the programs. Cams are inching up into the low 230's now for the "average guy" with some of the racers getting up into the 240's. The heads are good, but there is extremely limited room for valvesprings because the rockers are close. Rockers with more space to the retainers are in the works. We've done some 14.5:1 pistons for a NA project. We're looking for 700 to 750 crank hp...which will be pretty easy. This engine will be a "decent" competitor for LS in the next few years, but it's about 5 years behind in development. Luckily, most good LS engine builders will be able to build a good hemi and we'll have some good competition between the two.

Mopar is not that far behind. Read Hot rod magazine, they built a 6.1 with cnc heads,LTs and a 224 cam and was well over 500hp (flywheel). The only thing really hurting them is 4,000 pound cars. They also have a 392 hemi rated at 525hp not offered in any of the cars yet. Don't count them out so soon.

hemi, mopar
mod motor, ford
lsx, gm

Lets all just face what its really about. Spending money.

Hell I did it on the cheap why do you think I am putting a LQ9 with a single turbo into my ford fox body.

lol.

Anything can be fast with enough cash dumped into it.

Just some, less than others.

I just like fast cars/trucks regardless of brand, long as it is domestic Im on board.
