Default scotch brite engine bearings????

I have read...never to use scotch brite on engine bearings because it embeds aluminum oxide in the bearing which can eventually wear on the crank.

I have a local engine builder who builds C5R engines for 24hr race purposes....he lightly scotch brites his bearings.

I did this to my main bearings(just enough to shine the bearing surface)......I am still building the motor...and am wondering if I should remove the caps and change the bearings before going any further?

How many of you use scotch brite or know of engine builders who do...???.

I have searched and read everything.....cant find anything that says...there is a benefit from doing this...

let me know what you guys think.

sandpaper would likely get some grit in there, scotch brite shouldn't (its not a granular abrasive).

I sure would not do it unless there is an obvious flaw on bearing surface...maybe he wants to take off the soft surface coating on the bearings.

I have been doing this for about 20 years. Some bearing guys at Federal Mogul give me a hard time about it, but I like to clean them with mineral spirits and scotch brite before assembly.
