ls2 402 priming motor question

Default ls2 402 priming motor question

my buddy bought a ls2 402 short block 4 his vet and im putting it in and i was wondering how 2 prime the motor. i was told u dont have to do that, and i have heard u have 2 do that. but the question is how 2 do that when u cant spin the oil pump w the motor together???

Hook everything up,...except for the coil packs.

Turn key. Car will NOT fire.

I changed my stocker 5.7 to a 6.6 and while it was on the cradle, out of the car, I hooked up the starter. Without the plugs in the cylinder heads and the oil pan full, I cranked that puppy over till oil was gushing out ot the oil pressure sensor hole behind the manifold. Upon start up, 100% oil pressure Quick ! Turned out 482 rwhp & 150 torque, runs sweet 1

That's what I was thinking. Bolt up the starter and flywheel and hook up a 12v battery to that sucker, with some heavy wires though. I am wondering is turning the crank over by hand will be fast enough to pump the oil. The starter idea should work well though.

Turning the crank manually would not spin the pump fast enough to do any good. The friction surfaces should be lubricated during assembly enough to adequately lube everything up prior to the first start. If you do want to spin the engine with the plugs removed, be sure to remove the fuel pump fuse so that you don't wash down the cylinder walls.

Just pull the fuel pump or fuel injector fuse and crank it for 5 seconds.
