I also am waiting for rockers/valves. The springs I'm going to use are cam motion k-motion k-800's, in conjunction with the morel lifters as the spring pressure is probably a bit high for a stock lifter.

1.460" O.D. 1.085" Coil Bind #165 closed (1.850") 470# open (1.150")

Best part, they are $120!!

Things you will need for LS7 head swap...

-Block with larger bore
-Pair of GM LS7 heads
-GM LS7 intake manifold
-GM LS7 fuel rail
-New head gaskets
-Valves, either GM ones($$$) or stainless(heavy)
-Springs, preferably aftermarket, big if using stainless valves
-GM LS7 rocker arms
-New pushrods, probably longer than LS1/6
-90mm TB with a magical way to mount it onto the manifold
-Retainers, locks, seals for valves and valve springs
-New lifters, if using a BIG valve spring

Anything else I am missing?

- Pistons that can handle the 12 degree valve angle.
- If using GM Ti intake valve you'll need the lash caps.

Aren't the LS2 and LS7 TB's the same? I haven't checked our project motor but from a quick glance they sure look the same.

The LS7 lifters are a new and improved design... no one knows of their limitations yet.

Regarding retainers locks and springs... our project LS7 crate motor heads will not be disassembled so I cannot give specific set up differences. What I do know from plain sight is the factory Ti retainers are offset higher in relation to the locks. In other words the locks sit in a deeper pocket. Hot Rod magazine states the LS7 specific retainers were designed to prevent coil bind with the higher lift LS7 cam coupled with the 1.8 rockers. So, a lower seat pressure but apparantly it works. If you were to look at an assembled LS7 head versus, say, an assembled LS6 head you would see there is alot more valve stem exposed above the retainer/locks. I wonder if the factory LS7 valves are longer... and if so... that would mean folks would need to stick with LS7 specific length valves even if they are aftermarket.

Just a few thoughts based on what I see...

What would be really cool is someone who really knows what they are talking about share with us regarding specific differences in LS1/6/2 and LS7 valvetrain geometry... what can and cannot be swapped back and forth...

I just looked, and the manifold has 4 mounting holes, and so does my TB...its a NW 90 mm. The LS2 and LS7 TB's are the same part number, I believe.

I believe the LS7 pushrod length is 8.4"...confound it I cannot remember. It is much bigger than an LS1/6. My pushrod length checker isn't even long enough!

I would agree that this is ideal...however I don't necessarily think having 15* pistons cut for a 2.10 will be a showstopper. Obviously, you cannot run as large of cam as you could with 12* 2.20 flycut pistons. I plan on running a 243/250 114+2 .655/.666, which should help with some PtoV clearance, compared to my existing 248/248 110+2 .621/.621. Can always flycut the pistons yourself too.

Yes, the LS2 and LS7 TB's are the same. But I havent seen anyone mount a NW TB to the LS7 manifold yet. Someone did but had problems with cable interferance or something.

Ah, well I drive a vette, so I have drive-by-wire. This could definately be an issue with an f-body.

I've done it. I used the SDPC cable mount but still needed to shorten the throttle cable about 25mm. It is a straight forward procedure much like a LS2 manifold swap except the SDPC cable mount braket needed to be linished to clear the map sensor and the large body injectors and the fuel rail mounting brakets had to be redesigned as they are differant to LS2. I used a Fast 90mm TB.

Matt.

will SDPC be making a cable bracket specifically for the ls7 intake with cable driven throttle body.
