Same price as the single roller and a little added comfort.

I'll tell you something, EVERY single chain I've put on a motor was loose! Every double is tight tension making it way more precise.

Question for New Era - I know on the LS1's some of the underdrive pulleys wont work with a dual chain, is that the case with this chain on the LS2? I got my chain and would like to put on a new pulley at the same time, from what I can tell I should be able to use the SLP underdrive. Please correct me if I am wrong!

PS: Thanks for the quick shipping, and the chain looks extremely well built!

Had the identical question myself.

Plenty of hi-horse LS2's (800+) out there with FACTORY single chains surviving, so what gives? Has anyone heard of one breaking? I appreciate the strength theory of a double over a single, but can anyone validate it? What if a single is good for 1000hp? Back in the day, single chains were garbage but technology has changed, so who can back up the bigger is better statement?

2 is better than 1? Kinda like dual springs still hold up the valve if the outer breaks. The chances of both breaking are slim. Your not actually hurting anything by using the double, and it's the same price, so "why not" might be a better question.

Not trying to split hairs or open a can of worms, but what's the reason for dual springs? (I know the reason btw, its a rhetorical question). If the threshold of the single spring is exceded by using a more agressive cam, then we understand the limits of the single, therefore the dual is justifiable or needed.

I believe bigger is better where it applies. I'm all for cheap insurance in protecting my investment (I currently have a 403 going together for mine as we speak, so my concern is legit). Again, not trying to over analyze the issue, but I (we?) read more than enough threads about how 'opinions' drive direction and simply wanted to know if anyone really knew the truth.

I beleave that haveing duel spring or timing chain is safer,If you have single springs with the same rating lets say .650 lift and have a set of duel springs rated at .650 lift ,The duel spring will last longer becouse it is spreading the load out over the two springs witch puts less stress on the spring and the same thing goes with the timing chain

Randy is correct, but to add to his statement, if you exceed the rating of the spring, or over rev, or have spring failure, it's usaully the outer spring that breaks. You still have another spring in there to hold your valve up. If you would have had a single spring, your valve would be smashed through the piston and up into the combustion chamber. Thus destroying your short block and your head. You don't have to exceed the limits to have failure. Sometimes springs break for no reason. The same applies to the chain. Once again, the easier question would be "why not" use them. There not harder to install and they don't cost any more, so.......

I had a feeling this was going to be a tough point to get across. Lol, I think both you guys missed where I said, it was a rhetorical question. I know why a dual spring is needed. My point was, we need a dual spring because of a more agressive cam. So the reason is not as a just in case. A single spring won't survive...that experiment has been validated.

A double roller, according to you guys, is being used "just in case" with out validating the actual need. As I mentioned earlier, plenty of big HP LS2's out there with single's. Beast, you (and others) ask, "Why not". That could be asked about a lot of things which typically results in some form of overkill one way or the other and really doesn't quantify the logic behind doing something.

I don't want to jack the thread (sorry, New Era )...perhaps this could be asked as a new thread.

I don't think were jacking the thread, it was pretty much dead anyway, but, I guess I don't see what your trying to get across. Sure, plenty of people run high hp on single chains, but, they are also taking a risk. What if a rivet in the chain failed? Parts of th emotor will likley be toast with a single chain. With a double, the chance of both sides breaking is almost unthinkable. Along with the springs, you don't have to have doubles just because of the aggressive cam. Lots of cams have designs were you could use 918 single springs, but if there is a double that provides the same pressure, I'm gunna use it for the simple fact of saving my motor if one of them breaks. Wether it's chains or springs, th eoverkill isn't going to hurt you, and in this case, dosen't cost anymore. So for me- Beast96Z> overkill for insurance of very expensive parts. You never know when something is going to fail, no matter how quality it's supposed to be. I'm sure I just said all the same things that I said above, sorry if I sound like a broken record.

Don't worry about jacking the thread , I don't care , this isn't posted in the sponsor section anyway so it is fine to get as much info out there as possible . About the question with the UD pulley , I had one guy do it and he did not report any issue on an 05 GTO , so it should be fine with an SLP pulley .

Thanks Mike. Even after what may appear as skepticism, I'm still interested in any additional info you can provide so that I could forward it to my engine builder. I understand it comes out of Australia. Is there any technical info on the chain or a link to the maker? TIA, Brent.

JP Performance makes the setup. They also now own Rollmaster. The setup comes with a dual Rolon Chain, not an IWIS. I thought maybe that was a bad thing, but after doing some searches on broken timing chains the IWIS double on the Rollmaster seems to have more problems than the Rolon. This is based on searches of LSx boards, Mustang boards, GP boards, etc. etc. I have been told the Rolons stretch more, but I would prefer stretch to breakage and several I have PM'd on this subject have stated the JP Performance setup has shown very little if any stretch.

Guess another thing that should be realized, both Rolon and IWIS Ketten make several chains of the size and pitch that fit these setups. The variation is the quality of manufacturing methods and the materials used. Only reason I state this is because I have been finding out that just because its an IWIS Ketten German chain, there is no guarantee that it is any better than the Rolon chain and in fact it may be worse.

Other things to ponder, the JP Performance crank gear is induction hardened, the cam gear is not hardened. The Rollmaster gears are nitrided but not induction hardened. JP Performance come with a Torrington bearing, very nice feature.

Not trying to rant, just trying to put out some information based on my research. I have still not decided what I am going with in my new setup, but I do have the Katech chain sitting on the bench right now and you can tell when comparing to other chains it is a top shelf material but I am frustrated with the fact that it doesn't have seamless rollers.

I'm ready to order a chain as well. I'm not sure if I shoud go double or single or whos to buy. The Cloyes has billet gears and their premium chain both single and double. No bearing though. For some reason I have my heart set on a Melling oil pump which works best with a single. I need to get some parts ordered but can't make up my mind.
