Default Big springs on an LS7 head

Anyone have a guesstimation on how big you can open up the spring pockets on these heads without going into the intake runner? I am trying to find out before I order a set. I need a 1.550" at the minimum. Also, are T&D or Jesel making some sort of shaft mount setup for these?

We used Jessel rockers on ours. The head is very thin on the outside valvecover rail where the spring machining intersects, you may hit water cutting for 1.550.

Ok Kurt, thanks. I will be able to look at a set in about a week to see what I can do with them. Does not sound promising though.

However, the World heads available in 2-3 months won't have that problem.

This is true, and our shop is a WD for World, so that helps.

The All Pro head that is available now does not have a problem up to 1.625. I have also put 1.650 on my AFR heads with some forethought and planning.

I think they are PSI 1224 springs.

you can step ledge the spring seat with a cut down locator, and use a hardened steel for wear.

There is no reason for 300#'s on the seat, there are many high rate durable springs today to give nose pressure for the wildest of grinds and spare seat pressure. It is not possible to get enough valvetrain mass in this motor to require that pressure on the seat! AND remember seat pressure is WASTE HEAT! loss of valve control occurs directly after the nose...not the base of the lobe.

we have evolved from the days of the 94x pacaloy springs (even though they are some of the best springs made). Different ways to skin a cat!
