Default LS2 valve clearance question.. and other ones as well.

Thanks in advance for any thoughts on this.

I am building an LS2 crate motor for my '68. Haven't worked with an LS2 before but I assume most of what holds true for an LS1 works for an LS2 as well.

I was Westech and they had a concern about valve clearance in my proposed combo. I really didn't think the cam I chose would be a problem but I thought I would toss on here to see what you guys thought.

What I am running:

Stock LS2 crate motor
COMP 230/232 .588/.595 114+2 camshaft

AFR 225cc LS1 Cylinder Heads with 72cc chamber assembled with 2.08" / 1.60" Valves, dual coil valve springs(.600" max lift), and Titanium retainers.

FAST intake and the vette 90mm flybywire TB. Oh, and I have some custom stepped long tube headers.

Anyone see any problems with this combo? Keep in mind this is not a drag car but more of a road race deal so I need good mid and low end power.

Also, what size are stock LS2 injectors? (28lbs?) and do you think they are large enough to get the job done.

I appreciate any input. Thanks!

Oh, anyone have any experience with these COMP rockers? They want me to run them..

Comp Cams LS1 Pro-Magnum Rocker Arm Kit, 5/16" guide plates, 1.85 ratio (Kit includes rocker arms, 5/16" flat guide plates, rocker arm studs & poly-locks)

I have personal seen that a MTI X1 cam (230 227 112lsa) has some P to V clearance problems.

A friend of mine had the X1 cam in his vette and wanted me to pull the cam out of his short block so he could sell it. (He got a MTI 427 installed)

I noticed that all 8 cyl had very faint lines that you could just feel with your finger nail where all the intake valve locations were.

Just my opinion, I'd go with a 228 230 114+2 cam, should be good for some low and mid power.

I believe they do come with 28lb injectors, might want to go up a size, SVO 30lb?

Some people have problems with 1.8 or 1.85 rockers with certain cams, I think it has something to do with ramp rates.

Such low compression?

I don't think you;ll have problems, but Westech should be plenty capable of checking just in case. And you'll be past the "max lift" on those springs with those rockers.

Yeah your spring / rocker combo has some issues. Won't you be over .600 lift with those rocks? What lift is the cam?

I do believe Comp recommends 1.75 rockers with any of there cam's that are over the 230 range.

You could go with a 224 size cam and use the 1.85 rocker's or you can go with a 230 and 1.75's the max lift will be about the same (thats the point of longer rocker arms you use a smaller cam to get the same amount of lift on the valve).

Strange since COMP reccomended both the cam AND the rockers at the SAME time.. lol

I will find out more tomorrow.. maybe the cam was ground for 1.85 rockers..

Of course Comp wants you to buy rockers. I'd stick with stock ones or go straight to Jesels. I was saying that the rockers will increase lift past your '.600" max-lift' springs.

I am sticking with the stockers.. I might try out the 1.85's on the stock motor to see if there are any gains

1.75's would put me just over .600 (.614 and .609 I believe)..
