Default LS7 springs question

Will LS7 springs work on a Gen III head? What lift are they good too, .600?

They should work, but the installed height will be lower, which will increase the pressure on the seat. That could be a good thing however.

According to an article in Hot Rod last month they used the stock LS7 spring with titanium retainers for the LS7 Stage III hot cam with .630 lift. I was wondering the same but would be worried about possible coil bind.

As I recall those titanium retainers were unique in that they allowed more travel in the spring in order to get by with the higher lift.

The LS7 cam has .591 inches of lift at the valve.

So can I use these springs with a cam that has about 590 lift in my ls1?

I have done a few searches and it seems that no one has really tried to put the LS7 springs on an LS1/6 yet. Anyone else?

They will fit, but install height will be lowered since the LS7 valves have longer stems. There is your answer =D

So that means you won't get the full .591 lift then, is that correct?

That is correct, the coil bind will be lower, so the max lift will then suffer

1.959 in installed height - ls7 Installed height
1.805 in installed height - ls6 installed height
assuming .630 lift was the biggest safe lift without coil bind:

1.329 in for max lift

1.805 - 1.329 = .476 travel

Unless someone knows the actual coil bind, I would be wary of putting this in my motor.

So how big of a cam do you guys think you could go with these springs before coil bind? What are the pro's/con's of the extra seat pressure?
