Default Stock LS2 Lifters Have Changed!

I was reluctant to go back with stock lifters after a failure took out my C6 motor. Well I'm happy to report that the new lifters are considerably different. There is much more material around where mine broke. On the old ones, there were two shoulders or posts that came up and had the axle where the roller tip rode on. On the new ones the clyinder continues all the way up to the roller axle. The roller is actually down inside the center of the lifter. I know this don't make too much sense... I'll post pics later. P/N fort the new ones should be the same as the old ones but its... 17122490.

Always good to see improvements. Too bad it has to come from problems like you had...

yes please get some comparison pics. I have a loud "klacking" tapping noise in '05 GTO (LS2). It seems to be coming from the drivers side only, maybe a bad lifter....

i'd like to see a pic, the older lifters in LS1's were not the encapsulated type and have since changed to the fully encapsulated on later LS1 and LS6 motors.
That would suck if they were putting the older type lifters in the LS2's

Theyre not new at all. The encapsulated lifters have been around for years. Also the non-encapsulated type is the same part number so be careful.

He is right I have seen both in various motors my 02 came with the roller tip sticking out of the bottom and not just the two legs LOL!

If two apparently different lifters have the same part number then they are probably built to the same GM specification by different suppliers. You are correct - the 17122490 lifters have been around for a long time. It is also true that they are very good.
