Default Just started the 402

And it sounds very noisy. Seems to be alot more valvetrain niose for some reason. The car is a ls2 402 shortblock, g5x-3 cam, stg 3 livernios ported heads, kenetic head gaskets and stock rockers. Is there any reason why there would be more vavletrain noise in a bigger cubed motor. After start up I pulled the valve covers to check everything and everything looked good. We are runnin cheap 10-30 oil right now for break in since we are changing the oil in 250 miles. I was told that that oil would be fine for break in. Is it just me or is there anything else to check. I get good oil pressure and there is enough oil in the car.

Double check the Push Rod Length and double check the preload settings for the lifters.

Pushrods are 7.4. They are the ones that came with the cam from lg.

Are you sure that it is valve train noise? What did you change besides the shortblock? Is the cam new? What heads are you using? Are they milled? More info please.

when is started my 402 for the first time it took the engine one heat cycle to get the lifters to fully pump up,before i put my lifters in the block,i submerged them in oil and pumped them up by cycling the plunger, left them in oil for about a month or two after that waiting for parts and they still took at least 30 minutes at 60 psi,i have about 700 miles on my engine now and no problems.i,ll be impressed if your stock rockers will last though they fail with a stock cam!but hey ya never know,I wasnt taking any chances after i spent all that money on a new motor.

It sounds like valve train niose. The cam is the cam that was in the car when it was an ls6. We just took everything out of the ls6 and put it in the ls2. Heads are the stg 3 livernios ls6 heads. It sounds like valvetrain noise when the car was an ls6 but louder. A friend said all bigger cuve motors are louder but I dunno.

Hmmmmm. I have to agree with Krazy on the lifters getting pumped up. If I remember correctly, mine was pretty noisy also. I disagree on the stock rockers though. It is the lightest valetrain available and I know people that are running them for over 2 years putting out 700+hp at the flywheel.

Thanks. How do you like your cam? I have to change mine and am tossing around some options.
