SAE-certified horsepower In 2005, the Society of Automotive Engineers introduced a new test procedure (J2723) for engine horsepower and torque. The procedure eliminates some of the areas of flexibility in power measurement, and requires an independent observer present when engines are measured. The test is voluntary, but engines completing it can be advertised as "SAE-certified

If you are only getting 9 mpg and it feels dick slow compared to your old SUV, then there is something seriously wrong.

I cant believe no one else thinks that something is seriously wrong. I would go test drive another one and compare it to yours.

If the Yukon was a rear wheel and the Denali is all wheel where theres another 600+ lbs.

Was the Yukon leather and all the trimings or cloth and manual... cause there could be another couple of hundred lb's.

The new computer is going to have torque management (I don't think any of the Gen IV cpu's leave that out).

All that combined with 87 octaine.... yeah I'ld say 9mpg (with a lead foot) and slugish response due to low octain fuel in a super lead slead.

It seems to be running a little better but no where near the car & Driver mag. test of 14.9 or so. Probably a high 16 car. It still sucks gas big time!
I wander why the Escalade is 403 hp and the Denali is 380 hp? Same specs same motor?

My friend and I went to get him a brand new Denali a month ago. I have a 03 Denali. He already has about 1100 miles on it right now. My Denali feels alot more responsive and is faster in a side to side drag race. I like the way the new Denali looks but I am also disappointed in it's performance. Also the dod is very noticeable. When cruising on the highway and you floor the gas pedal; it feels like a 1 second delay before turning on the other 4 cyl.I think GM needs to do a better job on that. On a resent highway trip; he managed almost 1 mile per gallon better than me. 14.2 vs 15.0 mpg.

It's hard to jump to conclusions because he has a brand new vehicle with low miles and the 6.2L is such a new motor with very little feedback from actual consumer end users. I do know the low miles affect the mpg dramatically. My TB SS was averaging 10-12 mpg with 100-500 miles on the odometer and has now improved to 14 mpg with more aggressive driving habits but 1300 miles.

The only time I knew the DOD was on in the Avalanche I drove was when the light in the dash said so. That and you could barely hear a little rasp in the exhaust when it went to 4 cylinders. When I stomped on it it was outta 4cylinder mode before the pedal hit the floor and the transmission downshifted. I noticed no lag at all.

One thing I did notice about the DOD is that it took a long time to activate once cruising and only did so under VERY light TPS %/load.

The newer interiors are a lot nicer than the trucks they replace though. Might have to trade my current one in on a new truck when they finally put the DOD in them.

I don't know about the denalis, but the 07 escalade 403 HP AWD really gets up and goes. I don't think that a denali would be that much slower. We had one in the shop (GM Dealership) that had plugged cats, you might check it out.

I test drove a 07 Escalde couple months ago with that L92 motor and i thought that thing jumped real good for its size, defintaly faster then what is used to be.
