Default all 402 ls2 owners get in here

so i have a ls2 402 that is having oil consumption issues, the car was burning oil, smoking allot on start up and when floored. i sent the car back to the guys that built it and they tried to fix it by changing the pushrods and adding a catch can with some other things and its still having issues after they said they put 800 miles on it and it was fine, its using half a quart ever 500 miles, the car has had issues from the shop from day one, are there any other ls2 402's having oil issues ?!?!?!??!?!??!??

i read where there was one that was and it was the dart 225 CNC stage 2 heads from PRC that was causing it to burn oil. valve guides were leaking oil on the valves, he was consuming as much oil if not more as you are. my LS2 403 isnt together and running yet. have you check compression? maybe the rings arent seated yet?

Make them fix it. If they did the build & install, it's their problem.

my car burn no oil at all! i have no catch can, nothing.
sounds to me like some one file fit the rings wrong, or theheads are leaking. i would have them fix it, its not right.
a motor isa motor isa motor. if it burns oil, smokes ect, someone didnt put it together correctly! thats a fact. has nothing to do with it being an ls2 or a 402.
for those running catch cans. try changing thepcv valve out. i used to burn oil on my twin turbo setup, we put a pcv valve from a Viper in it, took out the stock one, and itwas fine.
good luck

No oil burning issues with mine, no catch can, just the LS6 PCV setup. Shortblock was built by SDPC. Before I ordered it, I called them and specifically asked them about this issue and told them I did not want a "loose stroker motor". I was assured it would not do that and so far after approximately 2200 miles it has been real good.

i am worried about this issue as well. my motor should be here tom. and im installing this coming weekend. i spoke to SDPC about this issue, and they said i shouldnt have any problems, but they are sending me a different PCV setup. hopefully i wont run into this problem... i dont mind having to add oil here and there, but ill be PISSED if im needing a quart every 2 weeks

Have you tried doing a leakdown test to sort out where the problem might be (rings, heads, etc..)?

i have minimal street driving, maybe 100 miles.
however 1 pass with 350 worth of spray is about the same as putting 20,000 miles on an na car. and no issue with mine. and when i did the motor, i file fit the rings myself, and i went a little loose because it makes power. but i know the limit of making power and making a smoker. lol
also, i have seen the rings on upside down! my buddies stang had this issue. someone did his motor, it smoked, the pulled it apart checked the rings said they where fine. it still smoked, they threw a rag around the Breather and called it good.
then he had us pull it apart, we did, and found the rings upside down. threw a new set in the right way, the car picked up 30 rwhp, and no more smoke!

Got the same problem. Got a SPDC 402 short block and car has smoked since first start up. I did a leak down and got 190 all around on the short block. Pulled the intake and found the intake runner coated in oil. I am goin to do a catch can and valve seals to see if that fixes it.

the catch can is a fix that should not be needed.
if i spent all the money on a new motor and it smoked ect. i would have sent it back right away! thats just not right!

if i built a smoke or East Side built a smoker, they would sure as **** fix it

thats unreal

I have an SDPC LS2 402 shortblock, & run a catch-can. My motor does not smoke ever. I use a half quart every 3000 miles, and I run 9.5 psi boost so most of that is probably just normal forced induction blow-by, and I have no issues w/ adding half a quart between oil changes. That's less oil than my (and many other) stock LS1's use. I'd suggest playing w/ different PCV valve set-ups/catch-cans and see if that fixes it. Another option is to get an oil analysis with professional commentary on the results like a Dyson Analysis and he can tell you what is going on with your motor and what changes to make to fix it.
