New GMPP LSX Block
JEFF
"A little bird told us during a recent tour of a NHRA racer's shop, he spotted a set of "gargantuan" LS-style heads. When he asked the racer about them, the gentlemen stated, "I'm working on some LS8 program stuff for GM, and I got some preliminary castings." A huge LS-style block was also spied-it had a 4.300-inch bore and was set-up for 4.400-inch stroke, which would mean a massive 511 cubic-inch displacement! The racer stated he was playing with these parts to see what kind of power they would make, and said "This setup will make an easy 900hp."
A mention was made of this block becoming available through GMPP before long-and while that can't be verified, the racer stated "I don't get parts unless they're actually going to do something with them."
Doesnt sound exactly like what you guys are talking about. But could somehow be related. Either way, this would be kick ***. A 511 CI small block, no doubt though the cost would start very high, something like the C5R block.

If GM comes out with a big bore block that is cheap they will have a hit on there hands. I don't care if it's iron, that's what's in my truck already.
Look at the bore spacing. This is obviously a larger engine.
Warren Johnson races Big Blocks at 500 ci.
This may be the new DRCE block based on LSX architecture and may still be called an LS??.

Does anyone have any more info on this block? Could GM finally be giving us an affordable large bore LS block?
Matt
The block is iron and will be capable of over 2000 Horsepower. Yes there is a rapid prototype just run for GM Performance Parts.
As I said on Spike's Powerblock the block was designed with Warren Johnson. It will be in the range that you talk about. I would not feel as though you can go past 4.250 without offsetting the bores. We will stay well below that to insure sealing between the bores.
I will have a block within a few weeks.
The Nova will be raced in the NMCA not the NMRA. It will use nitrous with a pair of dominators and a sheet metal intake. Plans include a Liberty 5 speed.
Currently the Super Nova is at the Team Z Motorsports shop in Flat Rock Michigan getting upgraded for next year.

It shouldn't be so hard to believe. Most aftermarket iron blocks are in that range. When I say range you should assume that it will be somewhere between $2000.00 and $3000.00.
Given the correct components the block is designed to handle in excess of 2000 horsepower.
I would predict that top of the line engine builders will squeeze somewhere in the neighborhood of 2500 horsepower.
The cylinder walls of the iron block will not distort like a sleeved production block that those power levels.
Of course it's not for everyone. It's nice to have a choice.
