Default LS2 GTO Potential?

OK so I'm actually in a position to buy a new vehicle. Here's my question. What do I want to buy?

I have narrowed my choice to 3 main options-
2007 Chevy 1500 4x4 Crew Cab
2006 Charger R/T (I work at a Dodge dealer)
2005 GTO

If the truck I want to get the 6.0 get an ATI or Vortech for it.

If the charger I'll get a GS motorsport kit for it.

I'll put a blow on the GTO as well.

I just cannot decide what I want for sure yet, all have their advantages.

What kind of numbers is the LS2 putting out with LTs, cam/tune, 6-7psi?

You don't need a cam. The stock LS2 cam is perfect for boosted applications. We recently did a procharged Corvette LS2 with Kooks headers and borla exhaust - everything else stock. With it barely pushing 6psi it turned a whopping 513rwhp on a Mustang dyno. I was impressed.

holy crap, maybe I need to re-evaluate my plans for mine. that is nuts for being on a Mustang dyno too. good work!

I do love my GTO, its a great car to drive on a trip or take to the track (once you figure out how to launch with IRS that is). Everything has its ups/downs, but overall I love mine.

4x4 is quite different than the other two. I'd get a car. If you need a four door for kids and such, the Charger would be a good option. I have a GTO and it's a fun two door and you get 400hp to start with 2005-2006. Plenty of room for two people in back, but it can be a pain to get back there.

well, the 243 heads are stock on the LS2, basically the same as the LS6 heads w/o the lightweight valves. The 6.2 L L92 heads just came out and everyone is waiting on the composite intake manifold for them so they can be tested. Those might be a good selection since they have larger cc combustion chambers and will bring down the CR slightly for your FI plans. There is a ton of info on these in the sticky up top.

other than that all the LS1/LS6 heads fit the LS2, so you have all the options from AFR, Patriot, Dart, etc.

like i said, i sell dodges, so i see chargers all day, and there aren't many mods for them. and they aren't that fast, so i'm leaning from it

i like trucks and may haul from time to time, and may even go the lifted route.

I haven't driven a GTO yet, how fast do they FEEL stock? let's say compared to a Charger, which feels decent, but nothing superb, i know they are significantly faster, but sometimes i think larger vehicles feels faster than they are because you don't expect much out of them.

The 2004-2006 GTOs weigh in around 3750lbs stock. They don't feel as fast as an F-Body because they are a bit heavier, a bit softer ride, and feel more like an open road touring car you'd be driving on the Aussie outback.

I believe the Charger is heavier, like 4000+lbs so the GTO may feel faster.

Another thing...you cannot get the Charger with a 6-speed (as I'm sure you know). I dunno if that makes a difference or not, but it certainly did for me.

With that said, I love my GTO. This thing feels like an animal now that I've done some tuning on it. Just removing torque management and altering the IAT timing retard table does amazing things for these cars.

I put down 355RWHP/350RWTQ with only a K&N filter and flowmaster mufflers...

The GTO doesn't feel as fast as an F-body because of the decrease in NVH but the '05-'06s are a driver's race (stock v. stock). And an F-Body would crush the Charger. As for Dodge, I test drove a 300C and it felt much slower than the GTO. A truck, feh...

GTO FTW.

Well, I think i really ought to get something 4 door. . . so I'm leaning toward a used Dmax or an 07 NBS 1500 CC with the 367hp 6.0

too many abbreviations, i realize now how stupid that looks, a new body style crew cab 4x4 chevy 1500 with the 6.0 (newly rated at 367hp)

You could allways wait a year or two till the Impala goes back to RWD. Or what about a Caddy CTS-V? I'm just trying to think of GM 4 doors that are RWD for you. If it matters my wifes '04 Impala SS is a fantastic car I just wish it was RWD the '06 Imp SS with the LS4 is a fricken animal but it is FWD. My parents got one and it's really nice but FWD.... Did I mention I'm not a fan of FWD?

Yeah I like that its the only V-Series from Caddy that has the LS2 the others (STS & XLR) have the Northstar mod motor with an Eaton. They have some gimmie mods but limited I mean it's nice to change a pully and nothing else to pick up an easy 25-50 hp. I still would rather a pushrod motor ove a Mod motor w/blower.

The caddy would be great, if I could stand the thought of an $800 payment.
