I PMed Trevor asking about this setup. I was wondering how they were accomplishing 418 cu. in. because a 4.065" bore with a 4" stroke equals 415. The only thing I could think of is that they bored the block to a 4.08", then with a 4" stroke would equate to a 418.

I use a 4.030" bore & 4.100" stroke & 6.125"rod in my LS2 = 418cid.

Yep that is 418 also but is impossible with the L92 block since it start's life bigger then
4.030.
I WOULD NOT TAKE THESE BLOCKS TO 4.080
When you sonic test them the block's are good for a 4.080 bore but why take it that far for little to NO gains? A 415 vs a 418 won't make any extra power and IMO is a risk not worth taking.
Similar to the guys doing a 415 Iron LQ9 motor. Taking a block to it's limit's to gain a whopping 3 cubes isn't a good idea IMO.

Why not do a 417" or 407" or 411" to do the oddball size that noone ever does.

The iron blocks are known to be good for .060" over time and time again, I'd say take em to no less than .030" and no more than .060"

417 is doable, a 407 or 411 would take a smaller then 4" stroke and isn't something common, but could happen.
Iron is good for 4.060 on most iron motor's, but if you have 1 problem what good is a block that is already maxed? One promlem means you get to buy a new block.
I perfer to stick with the 4.065 or maybe 4.070 bore as 2-3 cubic inches isn't going to give you any additional power.

so going with a 4.080 weakens the block so to speak?

because oddball piston sizes require a custom piston.. and that requires more money.
oddball strokes require either a custom rod (unusual, and pricy) or more often, a custom piston.

and you wont gain much, if anything from it.... thats why you dont see people building oddball motors.

I can understand the concern about a 4.080" bore on the L92 but If we thought it were an issue then we simply would not do it. If it comprimised structural integrity of the block in any way then we would build them a different way, this has been looked into and is NOT an issue. This is the same concern that happened when the LS2 blocks came out and people were concerned with going more than .005 over. We have built many LS2's with a 4.010 bore and currently we are running a 4.015 bore on our Twin Turbo C6 that regularly sees 22lbs of boost.

I totally agree. I could have gotten a few more cubes out of my sleeved block, but there's just no real gains to be had. Now if for some reason anything happens and I need to rebuild, I can afford to bore/hone without worrying about integrity. Who wants to buy a new block at every rebuild?

Actually from the blocks we've seen it takes a fairly healthy honing just to get the cylinders completely round. I'm not even sure at 4.070" that all the blocks we received would have even completely touched up with the hone.

For a while, I was under the impression that every block needed a finish bore, but up until recently, I read that the L92 blocks come with a finish hone from the factory. I didn't realize that it needed more work.
