Default Lifters: Morel vs. GMPP

I'm trying to decide what lifters to use on my 415/416 L92 build. I'm sticking with a hydraulic setup. It will be a drag motor/car, so will see nothing but high rpms. I know that Morels are around $275 more, but they are proven. ($495 vs. $218) Is there anyone out there who has run the new GM Performance Parts race lifter? How does it compare to the Morels? I don't mind spending the extra money, but is it really worth it? That is a pretty big price difference. What do you guys think? Morel or GMPP race lifters? Anything else out there that you would recommend over both of these? Thanks.

Are you talking about these:

http://www.texas-speed.com/shop/item...d=690&catid=50

If so, do they have a GM part number?

Never mind, TS&P just added 28 to the beginning of the GM part number.

12499225

$114.46 from GM Parts Direct with shipping & handling.

$99.25 from Scoggin Dickey, but of course, I'd have to pay taxes which brings me up to $105.94! Then throw in shipping and I'm right around the price from GMPD.

But you'll actually get them in a day as compared to a week or 2 from GMPD.

And without the crazy S&H charges that come with buying from GMPD.

i have running the new lifter in my gto (418 stroker 248-254 cam), its looks almost exactly like a comp lifter (not the comp r). all this talk about the cts-v reving to 8500 rpm is great and true, but remember that those car have ti valves, and very trick valvetrain, which is very light, unlike what most people with ls1's have. i say spend the money on the morels, if you want to rev it higher then 7k.

The way I look at it is, I had a '00 completely stock longblock (heads/bottom end) with the exception of a cam, valvetrain, oil pump, timing set, and rod bolts that spun 7200 rpms. That was using my factory '00 LS1 rocker arms and lifters. I figured if the lifters lived through those kind of rpms, why wouldn't the GMPP race lifters do so? I know that they were put in race Caddys, but as you mentioned, they did have a lightweight rotating assembly/valvetrain which makes a big difference. I plan on running right around the same rpm as I did with my old setup. Really, what I was looking for was people who are actually using the GMPP race lifters so that they can vouch for them. I already know the Morels are proven.

I've got some of the GMPP's going 7400 with a pretty heavy SS 2.055 valve. Might go more if I retarded the cam some (ground +4). They seem to work great so far, but I've always heard good about the Morels too.

I've also seen some heads/cam cars that want to go to 7200+ with stock lifters, so who knows. I think weight and proper set-up is most important.

I'll be using a set of L92 heads and with the huge 2.16 intake valve, kinda scares me.

I would go with the Morels if there is any doubt in your mind. Better to spend an extra $250 to keep the valves away from the pistons.

These are the ones that caught my attention:

Based on the quality of the stock ones, my instincts say these should be pretty darn good.
