Default L92 head gaskets

I plan on building a C6 Z51 6sp. L92/L76 combo. Current mods are long tube headers with high flow cats. 1 3/4; I know not the best for this set up but I don't want to buy headers again, x-pipe, corsa's, Halltech intake, electric water pump, low temp. thermostat, and ported throttle body. I can only get 91 fuel and elevation is about 2500'.

Question what thickness head gasket would I need to get and do they make it, to get a compression ratio between 11.0-1 to 11.5-1 on stock LS2, or would I need to mill to get that compression. Also what are the trade offs when going to thinner gasket, what type of gasket materials are best when going thin.

Car will be daily driver and weekend spirited driving.

Thanks ahead of time!

I always use this little calculator
http://www.torinocobra.com/Randys_tools.htm

From there you can shop for a target thickness.

BTW the GMHP article said you have to use a 4.065 (6.2) head gasket. We need to think about that--- That is .035 bigger than the normal 6.0 gasket-- )l(

The GM part number for the L92 head gasket is 12610046.
Even if you are running a 4.00 bore, you still do not
want the head gasket hanging out past the chamber on the head.
These are what I will be using for my FI L92 build.

Camarols1,

Is this the only gasket we can presently use? And if so I guess I have to mill or wait till they give us different gasket options.

Yes, this is the only gasket that is available GM right now.
I would bet that most NA builds will require milling the heads
to get the compression up.

Many, myself included are trying to figure how much can be milled to get from the ~69cc chamber volume to the more desirable ~63-64 area. Having done that, the likely .050+ thickness of the GM gasket is an issue. Hopefully Cometic will deliver a .040-.045 thick 4.065" gasket.

Anyone one know the compressed thickness of the GM?

I believe milling each .010" is good for 1cc, or so I've heard. Don't kill me if you find that to be not true, lol.

So I guess that makes the head 67cc's. I wouldn't think you could go much more--or should. What's everyone else think?

I am going to start with .030 then measure PV clearance and possible go back for more. I would like to get to 61 which is where I am now with 5.3s and -12 pistons. This is currently 11.3 CR.
Hate to give up a higher CR and a good DCR.

Default Head Gasket Order?

How many 402/408's are waiting for head gaskets. I'm looking for 4.065 with a compressed thickness of .030. With 65cc heads I'll have 11.2 SCR and 8.37 DCR.

I've got the short block/heads/intake just waiting.

I wonder if any of the sponsers could work up a deal for us?

I believe every .006" milled is 1cc. My afr 205"s were milled .030 which gave me a 61cc head.

I suspect the bigger chambers will change less per .001 of milling because it a smaller %.
Makes sense to me anyway.

Cometic also makes a gasket with a .040 thickness on a 4.060 bore.

Thanks for the info guys.

See5, "I suspect the bigger chambers will change less per .001 of milling because it a smaller %. Makes sense to me anyway." I agree with you brother the larger the volume of a chamber the more it will throw the ratio of on the milling. I'm not an engine builder or engineer but makes sense, any vendors/builders want to chime in?
