I used the marine lobes because they had better duration numbers at .200" lift, higher total durations and higher lift than I could get with the XER lobes. I was looking for a cam that would take advantage of the L92 head flow above .600". The ramps are a little less extreme and better suited to a more reliable valve train on a road race engine. I am more interested in HP under the curve than peak HP and this cam may be a little much for that...

I think a LS7 439ci longblock is doable for around 8.5k. I would rather have the LS7's bores to start with than the L92's.

How could you do a LS7 long block that cheap? Are you talking LS7 block and L92 heads? interesting choice. Don't know how the bore of an LS7 is going to be all that much better if the L92 block can safely be taken out to 433. Either way, a 43X cube motor with about 370 cfm heads and decent intake and 90mm tb sounds pretty ******* nice for a NA setup under $9K complete!

4.125 block X 4.100 stroke LS7 block and LS7 heads.

Would you rather have this.. L92 [IMG][/IMG]

or this.. LS7 [IMG][/IMG]

not really sure what i am looking at but the l92 looks to have more meat between the cylinders? is that bad? the ls7 is siameased(sp) correct?

edit: i see what you are talking about. the ls7 has much more meat in the cylinder walls compared to the other.

Look at the L92 again closely and compare the thickness of the two sleeves. The cylinders are crooked. Someone posted about that before. Don't know if they are all like that, or just a bad batch.

It will be interesting to see how durable this bored out L92 433 motor turns out to be. If its a sucess when properly sonic tested and turns out to be battled tested also it will be a great budget small cubed LSX style motor making big power!!

Well id still like to be able to build an 492 cube L92 togo into my 92 Sonoma GT # 492......LOL

but at 433 the L92 is hard to beat for the money, everybit of 550 plus at the wheels, and if it turns out to be reliable, what a deal. I may have to change to the bigger crank when it comes time to assemble my engine.

yes, its been running for a couple of weeks. I raced it two weeks ago but had to quit after the first session due to an oil leak. I'm racing again tomorrow at PIR so I should get a good idea of how the lap times compare to the 421 LS2 that was in it before. So far it is running great.

For those wanting to hear about the results of my road racing this week end with the L92 433 engine in the Black Mamba C5: The car ran awesome for both days of competition culminating in the obliteration of the NASA, TTR track record for PIR. The old record was 1:05.7xx held by my friend Ralph Masterson (427 C5R engine, '99 FRC race car) and we dropped it by a full second to 1:04.762. Pete Creek did the driving Sunday, on a new set of Yokohama slicks... I drove on Saturday improving my personal best from 1:07.10 (old record) to 1:06.697 on my junk tires.

Needless to say I am ecstatic with the results with the new engine... So far the engine has demonstrated its durability in these extreme road racing conditions. Technically the L92 is a Cadillac engine so I guess I have a Cadillac powered Corvette...

Very cool SHIRL, congrats on the track record and the fact that your new engine combo is off to a great start. I will be interested to see how much punishment and how long this engine will last and I am confident that you will be quite successful with this set-up and I hope that is the case!!

There is between .070" and .080" steel sleeve remaining after the block was bored plus it still has all the aluminum on the outside of the sleeve.

I have been shifting at 7000 rpm.
