Drivetrain Question for C5 Corvettes.

Default Drivetrain Question for C5 Corvettes.

What parts would tend to need replacing with 500 to 550 RWHP? I know I'll need new output shafts and clutch. Does anything else fail with that much power? Is the driveshaft ok at these power levels? Speaking of clutches, what would be a strong clutch with a decent price and reliability?

I can't answer your question. I have been wondering the same thing, even though I am running an A4 in my C5. But I am adding a Level 5 Built tranny with hardened input/output shafts, and a 04' Zo6 style Getrag differentail with both hardened shafts, pin and gear with a stronger clutch pack. I'm hoping this may be an overkill. I would rather have my driveling stronger than what I need, than weaker. I haven't dynoed my car yet, but I am hoping to be around 500RWHP, and about that much RWTQ. I want it to hold up to some tires that grab. Tires is what really kills the driveline. You want to find the weak spots, go bolt on some slicks. Also, the later model C5's has a bigger drive shaft inside the torque tube. Not sure what year the change is. I'm thinking 01' or 02'. I'm not sure what is need for the swap, or if it's even needed.

I would suggest a DTE tranny/diff brace be added to your list.

The >02s have heavier rubber drive shaft couplings and the shaft is not interchangeable with the torque tube so <02 is lighter. If you do high rpm launches or get too much traction you will crack rear end even with HD shafts. You can brace rear with DTE frame but in the end, avoid axle hop and aggressive slicks, and it will probably be fine.

I just made that much and i have twin disc mcleod clutch, viper t56, hardened output shaft and a Meyers Trans/Rear Brace.

This is a meyers brace, I prefer it over the DTE.

i highly doubt it since you're probably going to have a stall and alot more heat. You'll want to add a tranny cooler too.
