Question 4.1 stroke guys... come on in....

I am probably going to get beat-down for asking, but....

... what are the latest opinions on 4.1 stroke oil use and engine longevity???

(let the beatings begin...)

SDPC has strong oppinions on this and they ought to know. Oil has changed recently and short skirt pistons are super sensitive.
I can send you what they sent me (.pdf) with latest stroker if you send me an email.

Can you post what they said, I'm contemplating the same thing with a L92.

I have built more than a dozen 4.100 and 4.125 stroke engines and have never seen any problem associated with these strokes. Many are on the stock sleeve. My current road race engine is an L92 block and heads w/ 4.100 bore and 4.100 stroke (433 cid) on the stock sleeve and puts 550 hp to the wheels... Go for it...

I have a 4.100"stroke Eagle crank in my LS2 4.030"bore, 418cid. Im thinking of going a head and getting the L92 block and going bigger my self. I love the 418 it has super torque.

Thanks for the reply but you did not mention the questions from the original post...

Thanks for the post, are any of these street machines or are they all race vehicles???

I have done some snooping around the internet about SD Racing and I respect your reputation and what you do. I am really looking for an engine that can be driven 3-4 days a week (in DC traffic) with out costing me a small fortune in oil... or wears out quickly... I understand the nature of the beast and that some oil use is going to happen...

Any input is appreciated....

Talk with TPIS (sponsor). They have done numerous 4.125 motors without any issues

I do these as well and it is all about the ring package and skirt. You can't do one if you are going to be focused on Power Adder usage. I am making pistons for the L92 already like this as I want the extra engine size under those big heads.

The reason not as many sponsors do them is that there are no good shelf solutions and the rings required are also more money. There's lots of stuff in the 4.00-4.060 but the 4.070-4.080 stuff is harder to come by. if you aren't aware of the cylinder length and the pistons and ring pack design then you WILL have problems. If you do it right they run fine with no issues.

Erik, could you still spray 100-150 shot from time to time or are you asking for problems?

Probably but there are people that can take an entire NOS engine out with that much if the fuel isn't there and the timing isn't right.

WIth conservative tuning you can run more NOS than most people would think but that isn't something most people seem to be able to do.

I have had a 3.9 bore by 4.125 stroke built by Texas Speed for several years and it is running fine. If you race it hard it will consume some oil, but daily driving it uses hardly any. I was going to build a big stroker but this motor is going so strong still we are installing a D1SC Procharger right now. I am hoping to see close to 675 to 700 rwhp with this motor.
