Default Knock sensors

I've tried search and it does not seem to be working

I have an LSX going into a 99 SS. With the LS2 conversion stuff from I'm assuming Scoggin Diggie. Looking at the harness it looks like it connects to a LS1 style knock sensor but calling them they said to use an LS2 sensor. I'm going to call them back just wanted to see what all you 402 guys have been doing?

If you've got the Katech cam/knock sensor harness, you need to run the LS1 knock sensor, as that harness accepts this sensor, not the LS2!

The LS2 sensor has a smaller thread and a 2 pin connector (flat) whereas your LS1 sensor is a single wire like your Katech harness.

As long as your '99 sensors are in good shape (no rust and the like), you can run them without any issues!!

Well the problem now is the engine is already in the car, so I rather not drill on it to make the LS1 sensors fit at thing...

Is there another harness option for the LS2 sensors? Will it work in place of the Katech harness I have??

If I remember correctly, there are two holes on each side of the block....the one which is more forward (again, this is off the top of my head, someone might correct me...its been a little while since I was involved with the assembly of one of these motors at that stage) is the correct size for the LS2 sensor. Then the threaded hole more to the rear is the correct size for the LS1 knock sensor.

Sweet! I'll have to check it out tonight! Thanks!!! I've gotten alot of conflicting information, I called SDPC tech line after starting this thread and was told I needed LS2 sensors, then you post I need LS1 very confusing It seems both are right it depends on the harness. But Looking at the harness I have it is the LS1 connectors and if I have two different holes on each side of the block, all the conflicting info is making sense.

Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!

Lol, Im confused as well, I didn't take a close look at the harness, but I thought the threads on the sensors were not compatible.

Bobby, if you get a chance swing out to your car and try those holes that are about 6" to the rear of the front locations....your LS1 sensor should thread in perfectly...I just went and tried it on a bare block we have here!

The threads aren't, either is the connector to the harness, but on an LSX block it sounds like there are 4 holes total where I'm guessing production Gen IV motors have 2. So the LSX can use either LS1 or LS2 knock sensors. I will confirm this tonight and post results but I think Matt already did that.

Of course the next question is how reliable is the knock sensor outside the block compared to the valley cover they were designed for!

LOL I'm confused again Were there two holes on each side, one for the LS1 sensor and one for the LS2 sensor, or was I misinformed and the LS1/LS2 have the same thread size?

2 holes per side...one is the LS1 sensor size and the other the LS2 sensor size.

the sensors are no different then the others they have used in the past on many engines outside as you say.
