Default Broke LS1engine, ? on L92 stroker short block

At a recent road racing school, I destroyed my LS1 engine. I knocked a hole inside-out in the block, and at least pistons #8 & #6 are totally trashed; therefore, the entire short block is trashed. I have been considering various options to get the car back onto the road.

I am very interested in replacing the LS1 with a 418 cu.in. L92 stroker short block from Texas Speed. I think that the cam (after inspection), oil pan, water pump, and all accessaries will transfer over. I will buy a new heavy duty oil pump. And I think that my 243 Patriot Performance heads should bolt on, as well as the LS6 intake. The L92 short block will be fitted with the 24x reluctor. Also, I'm thinking that I will need 36 to 38#/hr fuel injectors.

Have I covered everything? Any thoughts on any problems that I may run into. I do have LS1Edit for tuning purposes and a wide band O2 meter.

You need a L92/LS2 front cover & valley cover, extension harnesses for the knock sensors and cam sensor in the front cover. LS2 timing chain or Nmotion Single for adjustability and the timing chain dampener which the LS1 doesn't have. LS7 lifters. LS6 Oil Pump. All the accesories on the front will bolt on like an LS1.

If it was me I would sell the patriot heads and LS6 intake and get the ported L92 heads and L76 intake kit with fuel rails & injectors. If you use the L76 intake kit, you'll need a 90mm cable throttle body (I highly doubt your MMS throttle body is 90mm cause I don't think they did an aftermarket throttle body and 90mm won't fit in the stock housing), adapter bracket for the cable (slp), and katech injector harnesses for the LS7 injectors. The knock sensors will be relocated from the valley cover (on the ls1) to the side of the black behind the motor mounts on the L92.

One more thing to keep in mind, you most likely will have to use washers about 1/8" under the windage tray to clear the rod bolts on the 3,5,7 cylinders.

I have an extra set of Katech Injector Adapters & Knock Sensor Extensions if anybody needs some.

Yes, get a real cam.
Also, find out why your LS1 blew, before you do the same thing over. Did it run out of oil, need an Accusump? Over rev, need to lower the limiter, etc, etc. Run too lean, get a wideband.

Thank you for the valuable info. There is more to this than I thought, still learning. About the cam, can you believe that that 218/218 cam with the rest of my stuff listed above pulled 400.3 RWHp at 6200 RPM. I wanted a cam that is totally streetable and idles well. I wanted to stay away from cams which built power at 6600 RPM for example.

What cam specs do you guys recommend?

something like a 230/240 or so should work very well with a l92 setup but as expected there will be different opinions. hit up patrick g or predator ,they are very knowledgeable on cam selection.

For perfectly streetable something like a G5X3 on a 114. I would go high 240's low 250's if you want more power. I went 250/262 113 but not a daily driver.

Also you will need the 8 offset L92 Intake Rocker Arms and Rocker Pedestals.

I need to revise this to a list so it's easier. I also forgot you need the L92 lifter retainer cups.

The L92 uses a offset rocker on the intake valves. You can reuse your LS1/LS2/LS6 exhaust rockers, but need the L92 specific intake rocker arms.

Thank you for all the help!

If I were to "settle" for a LS2 402 strker, would this elimenate the requirement for the special offset intake rockers?

You only need the L92 intake rockers and lifter guides (retainers) if you use the L92 heads. If you use a cathedral port head, you don't need them.
