My problem with this is that there's no new DI injectors. The Solstice/Skyy GXP guys are having the problem of finding larger injectors once they out-horsepower theirs. We will too, unless the aftermarket steps up REAL quick.
Bosch Motorsports provides all types of performance direct injectors.

No immediate info has been released officially by gm. However it is confirmed that it will be a 5.5 liter ls engine producing around 440hp the engine is currently being run and tested in the c6r and is expected to hit production soon.

Figured this was coming for '13 or '14. Too bad they are trying to reduce the bore and stroke of the upcoming V8s though, a DI 7.0 would have been badass.

That little V4 engine in the new Hot Rod uses DI. Pretty interesting stuff.

It's great to see the GM engineers continue to refine and update the small block so that it doesn't become obsolete. I wonder how easy the new Gen V could be transferred in a retrofit situation, though. That may be a little tough. Time will tell.
You mean 3.6 Right? They offered the 3.6 in both Port Fuel and DI versions, and I believe they still do. The DI also comes on the 2.0/2.4 ecotec, which also came in the Solstice and Sky as well as is still available on the the Cobalt LS/SS and the HHR LS/SS and some of the newer Buicks. GM is also looking at making the 3.0L with DI into a turbo version. This is nothing new to GM at all. Everyone is acting like it is so amazing. The changing of the L92 head config is interesting. The problem with that is they would nearly be NON-interchangeable with previous gen engines. Read on to see why.

The biggest problem that people have with the DI engines that GM uses are their mechanical fuel injection pumps. They make a huge amount of noise. You basically use a system like a diesel where one pump brings the fuel to the injection pump and the injection pump raises the pressure and distributes it. And you thought that replacing 1 fuel pump was expensive!

This is right off of GMs website:
Available in the Buick Regal CXL, the Ecotec 2.0L turbo (LHU) is a next-generation derivative of the Ecotec 2.0L turbo LNF engine, introduced for the 2007 model year and the first North American engine with direct injection.

Is there any LS news over there in the USA yet about direct injection.

I know here in Australia in 2013 we are getting the VF commodore it will be an LS 5.3L with direct injection and all Holden dealers right now are have massive sales trying to clear floor stock to make way for the new models for next year.

Best info I have seen says 5.3/6.2 DI. Should see the first 6.2 with the new Corvette introduction this Fall/Winter.

"Should see the first 6.2 with the new Corvette introduction this Fall/Winter"

I wonder if the system will able to retro-fit to the present 6.2L motors?

DI pistons are very different. Will probably fit the block (I am assuming), but there will be a lot of changes needed.

Agreed. I have a new Regal CXL that is DI. Damn thing sounds like a diesel. Kinda sketchy too IMO.

One thing I am curious of. If they are using roughly the same style DI setup as a diesel (the DI pump is on top of the motor by the valve cover on my Regal), is the DI pump and injectors going to need to be replaced in 150k like on the Duramax's? Is it going to cost $800 for ONE injector like the diesels?

If so, can you imagine buying a set of injectors when you've maxed out the stockers? My dad just put over $2000 into a Duramax at work for a pump and 1 or 2 injectors....

Seems like that would really hurt the mod market.

Reposting the photo from above because I'm getting a red X.

I find the waterpump offset location to be interesting and I'm still not convinced on what the pump below it is for; I kinda think it could be a remote reservoir power steering pump.

The older duramax's had that issue and the injectors don't cost 800 bucks. You can find them for less for the set of them. I have seen pumps for $795 for the duramax. My 05 LLY has 92k on it and I have the original pump and injectors on it. I have 2 programmers stacked on it with full exhaust and a CAI, truck has never quit on me ever. Can't say the same for my Ford buddies that I have towed home.
