Ti= High Budget Road race engine
Aluminum= All out Drag Motor
Steel= What 99% of the Sportsman/weekend warriors use and can take more than enough HP/TQ for what the Average guy will use them for.

howards rods make a tit for about 1500$ which aint bad seeing u can spend 2300$ on a set of carrillos

aluminum rods are nice but them bring about problems of there own.

I've seen quite a few for sale all over the place. I was going to buy a set when they first came out and were like 70 something dollars a piece. I'd really like to see what they can hold. People say they aren't that strong, but I've never heard of any failing.

HUGE difference between Billet Ti Rods (Pauter, Carillo) and Powdered Metal Ti rods(GM ls7).

Not even in the same class.

I agree, but have you seen any LS7 rods fail? I've personally never heard of any? I'd really like some one to push them and see what they'll do.

i doubt they will ever fail in a NA motor, the rod bolt is alot smaller than aftermarket ti rods, if anything that will be the weak link, specially after they are re-bushed, and with a descent wrist pin.

Katech can rebush them and ARP has a bolt that comes close. I've listed the part# in another post. your machine shop will have to take 4-5 thou off the ends to make them clear everything. direct replacement willbe out in a couple of months according to Jay at ARP. I sdon;t know how long it takes katech to get the rods rebushed as I've been waiting for my 4.185 pistons for 9 weeks, 10.5 by the tiem I get them.

What is the basis for your claim that the GM LS7 rods are powdered metal titanium?

^ That's the cheapest I've seen them, but of course it's an auction. I guarantee you they'll jump way up.

Being a gunmaker, I've seen more and more powdered metal parts being made for auto pistols.

While billet is always the preferred material, the powdered stuff does seem to take a beating quite well. Hammers, sear surfaces, etc. . .

The claim is that the grain flow is unidirectional although I wonder if it really means anything when it basically starts out as a pile of talcum powder.

As for weight/strength of Ti.

Think strength of steel

Heat tolerance near that of Inconnel/Invar

Weight of aluminum

Machines like a pain in the rear!
