Back on topic: What made you guys decide to design a new block?
We needed to make more power naturally aspirated while still remaining emissions legal. More displacement was the only way to do this. It had to be aluminum and 454 was not enough. We came up with this 500ci using some existing technology from Dart and adapted to our Katech-spec block.

Nicasil has been used in high performance 2 strokes since the late 80's , almost all production dirt bikes, street bikes, sleds, etc use it now. It doesn't wear enough to say so. It is tough as hell, I have seen countless examples of pistons coming apart, or sticking to the bore and not damaging the cylinder. Worst case is sending the block out for a re-plate, and you end up with a block good as or better than the day it was made.

I skimmed through an article in Auto Week yesterday and it mentioned that this engine might be going in the zr-1. Any truth to this?

It does not mention that anywhere in the article. That is definitely false.
