supposedly

4.250" bore x 4.250" stroke

482ci. This would without doubt be NA with NO FI. Seems the highest anyone is willing to go for FI is a 4.185" bore x 4.1" stroke which is a 451ci.

bore spacing is a 4.400", so from what I was told a 4.185 bore leaves about .1" wall thickness between the cylenders. This makes perfect sense when you do the math, however everywhere I read says that a 4.250 bore leaves .2 (.1 per cyl) wall thickness. If you use the same math, it only comes out to a .15" wall, or .075" per cyl.

So I dunno what's up with that.

Or get the tall deck LSX and go 4.500 stroke x 4.125 bore for a 481ci and have a whole lot more cylinder wall left for strength and a few rebuilds.

There was a company advertising a 500ci decked LS1 block at SEMA a few years ago. I know Race-Prep used to offer it while they were still in business but no one would pay the heuge price tag... something like 21k for it...

Is the raised cam LSX block out yet? I was under the impression that you run out of cylinder with the non-raised cam block at around 454 cubes.

Why not give dart a call?
if you like ,they can custom build you an lsx based block and run any type of cylinder head that you fancy,
better yet for the hardcore machinist you can get the slab in various
forms of completed processes, then perform all your magic at will.

well i heard with a 4.5 stroke and a 4.250 bore. it will be like 511 cubic inch. but i want to throw like 500 shot of nitrous on it. so would 454 be about the most i could do safely.

thats rediculous.. why not play it safe with the small bore if youre using a big shot.. i mean seriously.. the hp difference might be 50ish if youre luck in NA form and the nitrous is the great equalizer.. dont go for big big cubes, you dont need it.. anything 430ish is already big and in the 550na at the wheels area

I'm with carado1984 on this. Though, I'm going a little bigger with my build. I'm currently building a 441 ci LSX for use with a 300 shot. I may go with a bigger shot once I get used to the car, but for now it should be plenty.

Don't get wrapped around the axle with trying to have the biggest small block out there because you'll compromise a lot in the way of durability. Plus, if something happens and you're already bored to the max, you'll have to drop another $2000 on another LSX block instead of just having it bored a little bigger after a mishap.

Something to keep in mind too, have you looked at what it'll cost you to go big? I'm dropping a hell of a lot to build my 441 in a way that'll keep it reliable for years to come. Bullet proof bottom ends aren't cheap, especially when you consider you'll end up having to go with custom this and one off that. As it is I'm having to have Wiseco crank out a set of custom pistons to meet my needs.

Food for thought.

It all depends on if your using the tall or standard deck LSX. Tall deck will have a rediculous price tag due to almost everything needing to be custom, but you should be able to build a N/A 4.200" bore by 4.250" stroke quite easily in the standard version.
