Default LS2 harmonic balancer’s location not marked when removed

I removed my harmonic balancer from my LS2 neglecting to mark its location on the crankshaft.
Is it critical to put it back on in its original position?
How can I determine its proper location to place it back on the crankshaft?
What is the purpose of the 2 sets of 4 holes on the outside edge balancer… timing, weight?

There was no washer between the harmonic balancer and the large bolt securing it to the crank. I had read to add a washer, is this true? I will be using an ARP bolt not the OEM.

Thanks that's a relief. I was concerned since one manual had said to mark it, I assume that statement was relative to older engines.

Any comments regarding adding a washer for the ARP bolt?

My ARP bolt came with a washer so I'd assume you're supposed to have one

The ARP bolt comes with a washer. Make sure to use a lubricant such as oil or ARP lube on both sides of the washer to get a more accurate TQ.
