Question What engine for my swap?

I am looking to swap engines this next year, but I am uncertain as to which size would be best for my application. I am looking to be able to daily drive it, and be able to still run 10's with a boost application, or maybe some gas. The reason for my swap, is that I dont want to put head/cam/supporting parts on a 96,000 stock block. Why not upgrade if I have the money??

I will be keeping my built 4L60E with a Yank SS3600 stall...not sure if this alters your opinions or not..

Anyways, please reply with experiences/opinions if you have experience with the different sizes...

Thanks ahead of time guys,

-James

your budget will determine where/what you can do. so you need to give us a price. even without I would say 408 for someone on a mid-small budget 454 lsx if your loaded.

As far as a budget is concerned. I would say I would be able to put $5000-$8000 toward a good build. Possibly more if I get a promotion at my new job...Hope that helps.

408 shortblock with an l92/l76 head setup would get some nice power in your price range.

I would go 454 if you get promoted. The parts are a little more than the other engines you have listed but the machine work costs the same. The LSX Block is about 2K with just about everything else costing about the same. It's up to you. If built correctly you could go 10's with the 54 without the boost.

I'm going through this right now but not because my motor is high mileage .. but because it's broke

I'm looking to go 10's or VERY low 11's on the motor .. iron block 408 w/ my Dart 225's is the route I'm taking.

Do you mean that the block is $2000 MORE, or $2000 TOTAL...?

The LSx block is about $2000 by itself.

I am in the same boat, I am debating between a stock cube LS3 or a 416 CI stroker. No reason to go with a 347. It is only a few hundred more to build a LS3.

Probably way too much, if you can find one. It would be a better option to just have a forged shortblock built with your stock crank, or a stroker crank.

I am leaning toward a 408 or a 454, what sponsor should I look into to get me the best price on one of these 2? Is it usually easier to purchase an "assembled" engine? Or is it better to buy just the block and piece it together? Which would be best for better power?

I appreciate all of your help so far guys!!

You could get a 408 stroker iron short block from Texas-speed.com at about 3500dollars. and you can get a 414 aluminum stroker from them @ about 4200 dollars. if you want the long block, just add about $3,000. thats with good heads and a badass cam. now if you get these engines tuned to run a 150 shot of spray, you would definitely be happy with your time. especially if you are running automatic with a 3600 stall. Just thought i would put my two cents!

Contact Matt or Tim Cooks over at SDPC, (800-456-0211) to see what they have in stock. They should have you covered.
