Katech 427 or L92 416?
#61
Yea Tony and I talled about that 403. Uber impressive I must say. I have those same heads as well but they are part of the long block that looks like its sold. For my budget Katech recomends that I go with their off the shelf 427 and finish it off with AFR 225's and a fast. I'd have to say I like that suggestion..lol But I am still in discussions with other builders as well. Its good to get as many differet views as possible before building it.

Even with a 427 its not like your going to be wanting for low end torque if the combo is built right. Hell 403's are not wanting for torque let alone 427's. And I agree I would much rather trade some low end torque for an absolute terror at high rpm. Especially in a car driven on street tires.

Tony's probably starting to dislike me. I bug him all the time about this ****. He's got work to do and I keep distractiing him. Thing is he takes the time to answer your question throughly and it takes his time away from getting those 235's out...lol SO the delay is my fault I'm sure. He said early 08 in the post I read. I'm hoping that means Jan 12th..LMAO! I'd like to use them on my new build.

The 4.100 x 4.125 comes out to a 438.A 438 to a 441(which is a 4.125x4.125)is a pretty big difference when were talking taking out bigger by bore vrs. stroke. To me one would be less load on the whole recp. mass. That's why I'm curious about the answers on this.3 cubes isn't much and it might be splitting hairs but longevity on a street motor is very crucial to me!?Traver

Try calling them. Longevity is going to be effected by oiling. One thing no one has mentioned here is the oiling issues asscociated with road racing. A dry sump conversation is warranted as well.
An ls7 440 is a 4.127 bore with the 4.1 crank. The LS7 block is only 2300 at SDPC. The heads and cam are going to make the power.
So thrown into the ring now is an LS7 427 or 440. PRC has some great flow numbers on their heads as usual and at a great cost. LPE offers slightly better numbers for a much heavier cost.
And another thing.. when did LPE become affordable? Their 427 sb is smartly priced. Their LS7 headwork is through the roof..lol

I have the Ls7 427 wet sump with the ported heads and intake already with no road racing here.I'll be putting together a 440 out of my 427 by either stroking to a 4.100 crank or 4.125 crank. This is why I'm asking on the crank vrs. going bigger on the bore issue.I already have the Ls7 block which I will be having resleaved because of the stock sleave issues. I see some claiming it's the resleaving shops that are the only one's saying the sleaves are cracking, but have seen otherwise. Traver

yea I'm in at 4050, another 125 isnt going to hurt me. LOL I wasthinking the advantage of that block was an easy rebuild as well if you dont hog it all the way out to begin with.
443 cu in ? 4.2x4" do they make a piston for that? Isnt that like an old pontiac or something?
It might be starting to take shape. lsx block, callies 4" stroke crank, howards forged rods, pistons? ls7 heads or somethng real cheap until the afr 235's come out. Not sure of the intake. Ported fast 90?

LMAO!! Its not just me but I am 260 of it. Thats with a full UMI front end as well.
SO question... I can get a Callies dragonslayer for 1400 or a Lunati for 1900. DO I get the Lunati? I'm using Howards forged lightweight (600 gr) rods. Going the 443 route if I can, if there isnt some eingeering flaw in it or something..lol 4.2 bore 4" stroke or 449? How much do you need for a clean up?

Ya, I have a UMI front and everything else as well! Honestly, anything beyond a Callies crank is overkill on a street/strip setup. Callies would be fine.Depending on if you are going to boost or spray and how much would depend on how far out to go on the bore.I'm going to spray a 150 shot and I plan on staying with the 4.125 Dia on a dry sleeve just to leave some cushion. I'm pretty sure I've decide on a 4.125 x 4.125. Now if it was a LSX block that would be a whole nother' story!Traver
