I was surprised to see this thread on the corvette forum, but word is production may be stopped right now on the LSX block. I don't know if that is accurate info or not, but this is an interesting thread and I hope this is not true (and they are still being produced right now).

Maybe they found a flaw that needs fixin ? Maybe they're gonna go all aluminum

 

Been told that there is a flaw in casting on the rear cylinder bore, and there have been a lot of failures apparently SDPC knows about this maybe they can say something.

 

There is more about it in this thread, nothing definitive, so far it's all speculation and looks more like a contactual issue, who knows. Glad I got mine a ways back.

So far we have nothing but words about a defect. Please chime in if you have a problem with your LSX block. I haven't heard anything about a problem here or anywhere on line. If GM is having a problem with making it that's another problem and not a quality issue. So if you have a problem with your block please let us know. I have one that I will be machining soon so we shall see.

There are a few problems with the main studs being too close together and the mains not locating on the dowels correctly, but nothing too bad to stop production.

I heard the same about contractual problems and who actually "owns" the moldings. Hopefully everything can be straightened out in a timely fashion without much fuss.

It would be good to know the truth this can be sometimes lacking, I found out saturday just after we had finished some first up testing with good intial indications 1390 rwhp @27 psi LSX block ALL PRO heads.

Apparently there have been at least 30 block failures in the cylinder bore all existing and new units are being tested before despatch.

I have no reason to doubt my information I beleive SDPC knows about the situation.

Dont be suprised manufacturers wont tell you the story, i had 2 turbonetics T101 and a T106 fail big time intially the first one was ok it happens when the second one went at 40 psi same problem WTF apparently turbonetics knew about a manufacturing fault from last and first qtr06/07.

But they were handling when people complained not doing a recall, I have grave doubts that the truth will be told.

 

No official announcement has been made, even people at GMPP are unaware.

until then anything is speculation.

All the new rims on GM cars are from China. GM admits to it and says it better quailty then they where before.

Well, I have news for you all, globalization is here to stay. There's nothing wrong with things being made in other countries - when the quality drops is when things are bad.

 

I have heard from a very very good source the blocks are finished machined in Fowlerville, MI. So weather they are cast in a different country who Knows or who cares. The LSX block is bad ***.

 

No, incorrect. If there is an inherent flaw then they are not badass they are a time bomb waiting to explode. I'd like to know the truth about this before I lay down 13k for an LSX setup. Finished machined doesnt help a casting flaw and I'm not droping $1850 on a boat anchor. You get a 90 day warranty with your engine if your lucky. Why didnt SDPC tell me about this last week when we were talking about my motor? WTF! All they said was back order. Now I need to re-think my setup again.
