Default Just ordered my 408 now I need a cam....

I just ordered my short block from LME and now I need help picking out a cam for it. I going to top it of with a L92/L76 combo.

Here some spec on the combo

TSP L92s
72 CC Combustion Chamber
.51 head gasket
1 CC dome L92 Wiseco piston
.010 out of the hole
around 11.5-1 CR

I will also be using 1-7/8 headers as well.

I'm kind of in the same boat. Not sure what cam to get for my future L92/L76 combo on a 408. One thing I know is that the cam needs minimal overlap it appears to work well with the L92 heads (from what i can tell anyway), as well as be exhaust biased to make up for the OK exhaust flow of the heads. I have also seen cases where cams with quite a bit of overlap work well with the L92 heads...so I'm kind of stuck right now on my decision. As of late though, I have been looking heavily at the Livernoise Stage 2R (or even stg 3, but probably a tad wild for a street setup) cam for L92's. It looks to be exactly what I want as far as specs, but I don't really know anything else about it as far as real world performance goes. Let me know what you decide on! and good luck!

I see you're from Memphis. I grew up there. Are you on Speed Southest?

Back on track as far as cams I have been thinking about using LG, Synergy, or Patrick G to spec my cam but I wanted to hear from some others opinions.

I don't know what Speed Southwest is, lol. I think I'm gonna have to go custom cam also, but I still like the idea of a cam specifically designed for the L92/LS3 heads. Just for kicks I was checking out the GMPP 08 catalog, and looked at the specs for the Stage 3 hotcam, it has some goofy specs but it is VERY exhaust biased. 233/276 595/595. I saw a video of it in a vette, and it had a strange sounding hit, I don't know if I like the sound or not...

It's Speed Southeast. It used to be MRS.
Do you have a link to the for that cam? That is a huge split in duration.

Why not have LME spec it for you?

I didn't think that LME did a lot with the L92 heads as far cam testing. I'm not saying anything bad about them, so please don't take it that way. Bryan said that he could do cams and other things but building strong short blocks is what he is good at.

What a great idea! They should know better than anyone what it takes to make thier heads produce the big numbers. I wonder why it took so long for someone to suggest this?

Don't most head places also sell cams specifically matched to their heads and your vehicle? If not, why not?

Barring a suggestion from Bryan, I would go with a Patrick G custom spec. The results seem to be worth his consult fee.

It doesn't have to be an all out race car but I would like to make some decent power for the track but I would also like to crusie it around on the weekends. It won't be a DD but I would like to be able to be a DD if I had to. I don't know if I'll go SD or stay with a MAS.

It ill have some 1-7/8 headers / ported L92s / L76 intake / Pulley / EWP(later) / 4L80E (later) /

Yeah I'm kind of leaning toward Patrick G or Rick at Synergy to do my cam.
