Default GT11 + Dual Valvespring Noise?

I recently installed a GT11 camshaft and a set of patriot dual valvesprings on an engine that I built (stock cube turbo LS2). At idle and especially above 1600 RPMs there is a significant amount of valvetrain noise, much more than the stock sewing machine sound (just a lot louder version of the stock sewing machine sound). I am using stock heads and stock pushrods. I am using GM lifters P/N 17122490. I am highly doubting a piston to valve issue (the new pistons have valve reliefs cut into them).

Is this normal or is should I be checking my lifters for proper operation?

Second thought: The rear oil dumbell-looking seal was installed, but could it be damaged? The engine has great oil pressure (+40 psi), but if it is damaged will it divert oil from the valvetrain area?

Wrong length push rods? When changing cams you have to change the push rod length a lot of the times.

Stock pushrods (7.38") are too short for that cam and they're way too flimsy to hold the pressure of dual springs. Not surprised you're getting some racket. Try chrome moly 7.425" pushrods.

Update: valvetrain noise was reduced a LOT by the 7.425 pushrods.

However, I noticed a ticking noise from one of the valves last night that got worse and worse, but only at idle. Once in gear and moving, no noise at all.

It isn't an oil pressure "issue," but my theory is that the high oil temps of my tubocharged motor (oil temps can get as hot as 240 degrees) thinned my 5W-30 oil and couldn't keep my lifters pumped up like they were supposed to be. I changed to a 10-40 oil today and it helped the valvetrain noise a LOT...now it is very minimal. Oil pressure increased about 5 psi or more at least.

I just hope that no damage was done to the lifters when I was hearing the loud tapping noise from the drivers side of the engine. Any thoughts?

I think you should go get a measuring pushrod so you KNOW what you need. Otherwise, you are just guessing.

Agree^^^^^^^ You should measure it to ensure you have the correct length pushrod.

Check your exhaust gaskets. A leaking header gasket will sound just like a lifter.

Mine is noisy on the drivers side too. The lifters may lack oil pressure on that side. Typical of LS series engines, 5W30 oil worsened the problem 10 fold, 15 40 going in tonight
