LS2 402 What cam to use?
I will be buying a 402ci LS2 short block from Texas-Speed sometime next week. I have new ported lS6 heads w/ Gold PRC's that I will be using. I am thinking of going with a MS3. What do you guys think? I want my car to be some what easy to drive. I might be using this car for a daily driver. How streetable will a cam like this be compared to the MS4?. My car has almost all bolt ons and I will be using the LS6 intake and Ported TB for now untill I can afford a 90/90 setup. What kind of HP do you guys think I should be expecting with a setup like this. Thanks for any Help or Info.

I'm pretty sure that the Texas Giant will be too much for me. I would rather sacrifice 10-15 RWHP in order to keep driveablity good. As far as the MS4 goes I would never consider that cam a daily driver in a 346ci atleast for me. Also I have seen a MS4 cam only car lose to a TSP 228 cam only car at the track. Peak dyno HP doesn't mean that much to me. I would rather have a car with great torque and a good HP mark but also drive/run good. I do realize though that with the extra cubes I will have to make up the torque that I would have been losing, the MS4 might be great with my setup. I will be using Stage 1 LS6 heads w/ the PRC double's if that has anything to do with your cam selection. I am also looking for a cam that wont make me replace my Springs every 10,000 miles. Thanks for any help.

What kind of RWHP would I be making as compared to a MS3 or MS4. That cam does seem a little on the small side. But the reason why I am posting here is I am not too familiar with cam's other that for the 346ci. Thanks for your input and I will look into those cam specs.

Thanks, but I have a brand new TSP 224R which was going to go into my last setup before I hydrolocked my motor and decided to take the 402 route. I'm sure TSP wont have a problem letting me swap that out for one of there other of the shelf grinds. Hence the reason why I was curious about the MS3 & MS4 for this particular setup.

I ran a 244/250 .612 113 LSA and really liked it. Good streetability and ran strong at the track. I recently changed cams to a slightly bigger one ground on different lobes. Give Mike at Rapid Motorsports a call. He has been doing custom cams for LS2 402's longer than anyone.

Run duration of 244-250 and lift of 600-620 on a 112. My preference is to have someone do a custom cam, instead of an off the shelf deal. The good news is that LS engines seem to run quite strong with a variety of camshafts. I've seen engines with "too small cams" make some pretty decent numbers and perform very well at the track.

I guess it depends on what you want. If I had a 402, I would make it more of a daily driver motor and I would contact Tony Mamo from AFR regarding a cam he had on a 402 block that made like 550 rwhp while maintaining great driveability.
