How long do your 408's last?

How long do your 408's last? Ok so I heard that 408's don't last that long. I was wondering how long some of ya'lls gave lasted. So how long have some of ya'lls lasted before you had to rebuild them, and what went wrong?
I don't know that it's all in the build, but a good quality build definately helps. We have a customer in Dallas that has nearly 80k miles on one of our 408 iron blocks & he still makes great power & sprays it all the time!! 
The 408 iron block can definately have a long life when taken care of & built properly. It's probably my favorite motor for the money...

Well I definatetly agree you need to take care of it as well...LOL
As Jon said its great bang for the buck and if constructed properly and tuned correctly its a great long lasting motor.

See I thought the same, if they were built properly and well maintained. I have a buddy of mine that built one and blew it. I don't know what happened, but I do remember he was spraying it but don't remember how big of a shot. He was the one that told me they don't last long. I just think it left a bad taste in his mouth lol. Do the 408's hold pretty good with forced induction?
Honestly its one of the better choices for FI. We do a lot of FI and N2o builds, the 408 is as solid as you can get. The only thing I like better for extreme FI is our LSX 434. And then its only for the displacement.

Cool. I was thinking about building a 408 with a Magnacharger. The reason I want a magnacharger is cause I'm an ol' school kind of guy. I love roots styles plus they just sound like sex lol, Plus they make Earth breaking torque.

I have done many searches and read my threads on 408 (4.00 stroke) engines on here. I notice that most people that seem to be having success with this setup all have CUSTOM pistons. Now there are a few strays that have shelf pistons with great luck. You also will find that most on here will not admit there is a potential problem with this setup and they have never had a issue one with it. I guess some of us are not perfect and willing to admit and learn from mistakes. In other words I don't care what shop you are or how many of these you have built but at some point everyone has built a lemon 408 (4.00 stroke motor).
