L92 questions...
well, hurricane Ike flooded out my 01 fullsize chevy truck with the 5.3...im in the process of buying a L92 from a member on here...
ive been reading alot and searching but i still cant find a rock solid answer to some of my questions....
1st) Can I remove the VVT? how?
2nd) If i remove the VVT and change it back to a 24 tooth reluctor can i use my old 5.3 harness/ computer?
3rd) With a cam, headers and a tune...is 450 hp reasonable at the rear wheels?
please help me out....
thanks mike

vvt will have the cam phaser on the front. you should be able to just remove this, although i'm not sure what else needs to be done (ie do you need to remove or plug any oil feed holes?) Lots of ppl here are running the ls3/l92 blocks so you should be fine if you just remove the vvt and change the reluctor. I think you may need to change some other wiring with a kit from one of the sponsors for the cam sensor and the knock sensors, which I believe were relocated.

I have a L92 on the stand ready to go to the dyno right now. The engine I have is a non DOD engine. For that reason I was able to use the lifters with the new cam.
You will need to change the cam to a 3 bolt as well as the 1x cam gear. Also change the front timing cover to an LS2 or LS3 style with the cam sensor.
The L92 and LS3 cam tensioner are the same as well as the chain and crankshaft gear.
You will need to get the harness extensions for the knock sensors as well as the cam sensor. You will need to install knock sensors on the block.
If you change to the 24 tooth reluctor and the 1x cam gear you should be able to use your current harness and PCM. It will need to be tuned for the larger cubic inches as well as the injector size. If you use the L92 Truck Manifold you may need a cable style throttle body from Holley.
Good luck!
