Default Identifying what year L86 I have

I bought a pullout L86 with 8l90, ECM, TCM, engine/transmission harness and gas pedal. I do not have the vehicle VIN. I can’t find info on how to decipher the laser etched ID numbers on the block. I was told it was from a 2017 Escalade. However, I am seeing a significant difference between the downloadable tunes. 2016 is 2 credits, and 2017 is 4 at Hp tuners. There must be a difference between them. So, it must be important to know the exact year.

Can anyone point me in the right direction. I am looking forward to actually contributing to this forum after I get the basics down.

I am installing this in my 8 “ stretched 2 door Jeep JK....

The engine block has the last 8 of the vin on it stamped on the DS engine pad, see pic below. Look up this number on line or have someone at a dealer look it up and gather the complete vin like this.

If you have the original TCM like you say another easy way is to look at the sticker on it and if its a T87 TCM its from 2016, it its a T87A its from a 2017.

The 2017 has more security protection I believe and thats why it cost more credits.

Check the PN on the trans, it might not be an 8 speed. I purchased a 2017 motor and trans advertised as having an 8 speed and it turned out to be a 2018 setup and it was equipped with the 10 speed, a bonus for me though. The transmission cases are the same size so its tough to tell unless you pull the PN. My 10 speed PN is 24268796 if you needed it for reference.

One possibility may be that 2014-2016 engines are considered analog and 2017 and up are considered digital. I am not sure what that means or if it applies to L86s. I think it has something to do with the high pressure pump sensor. I am running a 2017 LT1 and the harness plug that goes to the sensor has on empty slot in it while 2014-2016 harness has all the slots full. How do I know this? I bought a Chevy performance kit not knowing this and found out a year later when I was about to use it. 2K down the drain. Just hope I can recover some of it someday.
