Thinking about buying 18 Sierra 2500hd rclb .
Is there any differences between lq4 and this 6.0? Only thing I really know with out popping the hood is vvt on the sticker. Don't know head #s or squat really.

This 6.0 is a Gen IV engine with rectangle port heads and (I think) VVT and DOD. It piuits out good power because of the better heads. It's a different animal than the old LQ4.

I've rode in one and didn't hear it shut down cylinders. Just a stripped down work truck model like the one I'm looking at. Thanks for the reply . Long term plan is big Whipple/ injectors/headers/ fun daily driver/parts hauler......

You usually won't "hear" cylinders shut down, as it's under such a light load or no load that it's nearly transparent in operation.

Biggest difference with the engine in the new truck your looking at is the direct injection. The gen5 is a completely ditterent engine, don’t get me wrong here, but the shortblocks are similiar. It’s the heads, intakes, injection system, and ECM that sets them apart from the previous generation engines.
I must admit however that I did not know GM was still building a 6liter. I thought that they killed it and went 6.2”s in its place. Good to know...

I didn't think HD 6.0's were Gen V yet. But maybe...

L92 was made from 2007 to 2013. Whatever took its place is what you are likely looking at.

It's an L96
It's a gen 4 6.0 with truck versions of the LS3 heads, only difference is LS3 heads come with lightweight valves
There's a lot of LQ4's that had gen 3 rods and some had gen 4. The motor you're looking at has gen 4 stuff which is excellent. Gen 4 rods are much stouter, the gen 3 were by no means terrible but you are getting the best 6.0 to have.
Originally I figured the 14+ (K2) gen trucks would go to a 6.2 or something for the big trucks, but they are still using the iron 6.0.
