Prime a Gen V, L83
Poured a quart of oil in it and put the plug back in. rotated it upright and installed.
(This fills the pump and main galley. )
It started half way through the first crank, and had oil pressure (60 lbs) in like 1 second.
YMMV...

I'm thinking that is the only way also. Like I said above, I can drill and tap the cooler lines cap for 1/8npt and prime from there. I used to have a drill operated pump that I could stick one hose in a gallon of oil and the other end to the engine. Spin the drill, crank over the engine with a ratchet ---done. I can't find the pump ( I have moved a couple of times) so I guess I can use a pump up sprayer. There is a plug right behind the oil pressure sensor on the intake, but it is blocked by the whipple intake. Thanks!!
This was on a phone company truck, after replacing the cam and lifters due to a failure (THANK YOU, SAPPER, FOR TIPPING ME OFF TO THIS PROBLEM!)
I had already installed the plugs, but didn't want to take them out again just to prime the engine.
So I put the battery charger on it, set to 200 amps, and started cranking it. After about three seconds, it started up. I couldn't believe it, and shut it off, and sure enough, the fuel pump relay WAS pulled out.
I tried it again just for the hell of it, and it started again.
I also second having an external source of power when first cranking. if you don't have enough voltage, the injectors will not fire (they are picky). Mine was also rebuilt by myself before swapping into my Lexus.
